A Note From Dr. Hooks

Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

Please be reminded that there is no school for students on Monday, October 14, 2024 in recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Thank you to all of the families who actively engaged in parent teacher conferences. Your collaboration with the school team is invaluable.

As previously shared, the Hyde-Addison ES community is collecting new blankets for those in need, as we approach this winter season. Our goal is to collect 100 new blankets by October 25, 2024. We have received 25 blankets, thus far. You may drop off any new blankets in one of the collection boxes or in the main office. Thank you to those who have already donated!

As always, please feel free to email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov, with any school specific inquiries.

Kindest Regards,

Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal

Hyde-Addison Elementary School

Unity Day at Hyde-Addison

What is Unity Day?

Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a day when we can come together in one giant, ORANGE message of hope and support. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange on Wednesday, October 16th. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention.

The Great Envelope Race in ON!

We have kicked off the 11th annual Great Envelope Race! This is the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the FALL! With a goal of $50,000, we will be looking to all Hyde families to participate.

Results through 10/9/24 are $28,934 raised (58% of goal) and 17% participation. Thank you to all who have donated so far!!! We also have 9 donors at the $1,000 per child level relative to our goal of 10.

As a reminder, the suggested contribution is $400 per student, however, all donations are greatly appreciated as we track participation too! Here’s how it works:

- Make your donation online, either one-time at www.hydegift.com or recurring at www.hydemonthlygift.com.

- Pick up a blue envelope in the main office and return it to your teacher or the main office with whatever amount you choose enclosed.

- Ask family members like grandparents and neighbors to participate too! All donations are appreciated.

Thank you for helping us bridge the gap between the school's operating budget and the funds provided by DCPS!
