The month of May brings a fresh burst of energy to our school. With warmer weather and the excitement of summer on the horizon, our students are buzzing with enthusiasm. It’s a joyful time filled with learning, celebration, and community connection.
🌟 Character Theme of the Month: Creativity
📚 Celebrating America's 250th Birthday with Books & Breakfast for students 4K-5 + 🎽 Track and Field Day – May 8th Students grades 1-6
We’re combining two favorite events for one fun-filled day! Books & Breakfast will run from 7:45-8:30 a.m. Families are invited to enjoy doughnuts, juice, and coffee while reading together. Don’t forget to check out the Scholastic Book Fair in the LMC—it will be open all day!
Following breakfast, Track and Field Events will begin at 9:40 a.m. Students will showcase their skills, sportsmanship, and school spirit throughout the morning. The Family Resource Council is generously providing a picnic-style lunch at Laura Park from 11 am. - noon. Join us for hot dogs, chips, fruit, dessert bars, and drinks. It’s a perfect way to connect and celebrate together.
🎶 End-of-Year Celebrations
May is packed with special events, including:
Classroom field trips
The spring musical, "Shhh!" At The Sugar Cube" , will be performed on May 7, with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the small gym.
Our grand finale Talent Show on the last day of school, May 22 at 2 p.m.
These events make the final weeks of school truly memorable. Please keep an eye on your child’s folder or assignment book for essential updates and permission slips.
📘 Wrapping Up the Year
It’s hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by! We’re incredibly proud of our students—not only for their academic progress but for their growth in perseverance and confidence. Watching them tackle challenges and grow into kind, capable learners has been a privilege. Final report cards will be sent home during the week of May 26–29.
☀️ Summer School Info

🗓 Coming Up!
Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. A love of independent reading boosts academic success, plus children who read more frequently also report improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: May 4-8 (shopping hours: before & after school and all day on Friday, May 8)
Location: Library/Media Center
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/pepinelementaryschool
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Amanda Komisar
Book Fair Coordinator

Thanks for Attending the GLOW RUN!
GLOW RUN FUN
Approximately 125 participants came out for our Glow Run, and it was wonderful to see so many families, students, and community members gather for an evening of fun, laughter, and glowing lights. The energy was contagious as walkers strolled around the Lake Pepin Campground.
This event was more than just a run — it was a celebration of community and a chance to support our Family Resource Council SPARK Grant. Thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, or cheered along the route; we were able to bring people together while helping to create opportunities and resources that benefit our students and families.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Glow Run such a success. Your support shows what an amazing community we have!
We appreciate each and every one of you for showing up, glowing bright, and supporting our school and families.
