NO SCHOOL - FRIDAY 3/13
From the Principal
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!
School Updates and Reminders:
This week we are celebrating Classified Staff Appreciation Week! Our office staff, paraeducators, school nurses, custodians, bus drivers, and many other team members play an essential role in supporting our students every day. We are incredibly grateful for this talented group of professionals who work hard behind the scenes and alongside our students to help make our school a welcoming and supportive place to learn.
I want to take a moment to remind families that there will be no school on Friday, March 13th. District staff will be participating in a Professional Development Day focused on continuing to strengthen our teaching and learning practices. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday, March 16th.
Finally, our Lost & Found is getting quite full! If your student is missing a jacket, water bottle, lunch box, or other item, please encourage them to check the Lost & Found located in our main entrance. To help maintain building safety and allow our staff to wrap up their day, families are not able to return to classrooms after dismissal to look for items. Any items left in classrooms can be picked up the following day.
Thank you for helping us keep our school safe and organized for everyone!
Warm Regards,
Christine Firth, Principal

Around the School
Can Dogs See Color?
Ever wonder if dogs can see color? One of our 3rd grade students did. She submitted her question to Mystery Science—and it was selected to be featured in their weekly video. What an incredible honor to have her curiosity highlighted for classrooms across the country. Way to go!
Watch the video to discover the answer. There are mysteries all around us. Have fun and stay curious!
From the Office
Our Lost and Found is filling up with coats, sweatshirts, water bottles, and other personal items. We encourage families to take a few minutes to check for any missing belongings.
We strongly recommend labeling your child’s jacket with their name to help ensure it is returned to them if misplaced.
ALL remaining items will be donated April 3rd. Thank you for helping us keep our school organized and clutter-free!
Help Keep Plastic Film out of Landfills
From now through May 1, students can drop off plastic film for recycling in the designated box located in the front foyer.
All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!
Plastic film must be clean and dry.
If you and your child are interested in learning more, this info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples.
Here are some examples of plastic film products we can recycle:
Health & Attendance
Absences due to Illness:
Follow these guidelines for when to keep your child home from school due to illness: if your child has a fever--over 100.4 degrees, is vomiting, has diarrhea, or has had these symptoms or other illness in a 24-hour period.
Please notify the school of your child’s symptoms/illness.
For more information please refer to our Parent/Student Handbook and Health Services Website
Does your child have an extra change of clothes at school?
As we head into this rainy stretch of weather, please remember to pack an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Wet playgrounds and little accidents can happen, and having spare clothes on hand helps your child stay comfortable and ready to learn. Thanks!
All planned absences should be reported to the office. Please submit the Planned Absence Request form at least one week prior to the first day of the absence. This advance notice allows teachers adequate time to prepare assignments and materials so your student can stay on track while away.
