Principal Message Principal Message

Washington Families,

September is here! We are settling into our school routines, getting to know one another, and becoming more comfortable in our classrooms. We know transitions can take a little extra time at the start of the year, so we greatly appreciate your patience, support, and partnership.

Arrival & Drop-Off Expectations

At 8:35 a.m., our school doors open and staff supervision begins outside. Students who are waiting to enter should be seated or standing under the awning. This is not a time for students to play or run.

Once the doors open, students may:

  • Head to breakfast in the cafeteria or go to the gym to visit with friends while waiting for their teacher.
  • We have several staff members ready to welcome and assist our students each morning.
  • Please remember that all visitors must check in through the office before entering the building, picking up a student, or dropping something off.
  • At this point in the school year, our students are becoming familiar with their routines and the school day. We ask parents and guardians to say their goodbyes outside before students enter the building. This helps students build independence and allows our staff to focus on welcoming all students into the school.

Dismissal & Pick-Up

  • At dismissal, please have your car tag(s) displayed in the front windshield and clearly visible for the reader.
  • When turning into the parking lot at Washington, do not park by the orange cones. Additional space is needed for our buses to turn into the school. Please be sure to follow the route accordingly and loop around SFT for the car loop line.
  • For safety and efficiency, we highly recommend that Washington students enter the vehicle from the passenger side—the side closest to the sidewalk. This helps keep students away from oncoming traffic and saves time by eliminating the need for students to walk around the vehicle.
  • Dismissal begins promptly at 3:55pm
  • If you need to make a change to your child's dismissal or pick-up plan, please contact the office by 3:00 p.m. We cannot accommodate changes after 3:00pm except in an emergency. This allows us to make sure your child has the time and information needed to travel home safely.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Finally, be on the lookout toward the end of September for information about our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences in October. We look forward to connecting with you and sharing your child's progress and successes! Thank you for your continued support of Washington Elementary. I hope you enjoy this edition of the Washington Wire!

Positive Behavior School-Wide Expectations

At Washington, our expectations are taught, modeled, practiced, and celebrated every day! We want our students to understand not only what it means to be a Champion, but what being a safe, responsible, and respectful student looks like in every setting throughout our school.

Our staff spend time teaching and reinforcing these expectations in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, gym, playground, and other areas of our school. When students demonstrate Champion behaviors, they can earn tickets as a way to recognize their positive choices! Students can save their tickets to purchase special items from their classroom store or shop on our Champion Cart!
