Updated Distance Learning Norms
With the start of the Phase 1B schedule today, Distance Learning Norms have been updated:
- Teachers must refrain from assigning new work on Fridays. Work that should be completed during Friday asynchronous time should be assigned earlier in the week.
- Teachers should assign a reflective task for Friday, if no other work is assigned. This will ensure we are meeting the daily engagement requirements. Click here for a sample reflection form.
- Teachers can offer optional remediation activities on Friday to support students, but these cannot be required.
- Teachers must be available on Fridays for office hours for a minimum of 20 minutes each block.
- Teachers are able to request that an assignment be submitted at the end of a block; however, students must be allowed to submit that assignment by Friday at 4:15pm before a late penalty is applied.
Phase 1B Schedule Starts Today!
The Phase 1B schedule starts today Monday, September 21 to align with the start of the 2nd 6-week grading period.
Teachers who need to be out on Friday DO NOT need to secure/request a substitute teacher, but teachers DO need to post asynchronous activities for students AND post their absence in Frontline.

PSO Grant Application Available!
PSO Grants are now open!
What is a PSO Grant? A PSO Grant is a supplemental program, funded entirely by Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) Parent Support Organization’s (PSO’S) discretionary fund. A PSO Grant provides awardees the ability to make specific purchases to fill a need in the classroom. PSO Grants fund supplies, equipment, instructional items, special projects, or programs. Those eligible to apply for a grant include OCSA Academic and/or Conservatory Faculty, Administration, and Staff.

Jamboard Available for Collaboration!
Thank you to Rachel Trask for writing this description of a new collaboration tool available to you!
Jamboard is a Google Tool that links up with Google Drive to serve as a whiteboard-collaboration space for students and teachers. A singular “Jamboard” is a white box where collaborators can use tools like drawing, text, importing images, and add sticky-notes to a Jamboard slide. You can add multiple Jamboard slides for students to collaborate on (see the image on this post) Please click here for a video tutorial on Jamboard.
School Wireless Hotspot Device Reminders
If you have students experiencing connectivity issues, please refer them to our IT staff so they can connect with the family to problem-solve and identify other solutions before resorting to a wireless hotspot.
Test Center Reminders
Just a reminder that during distance learning, the test center is not available for students in need of extended time for tests and quizzes.

Not Light But Fire - Curriculum Resource
Do you want to address Not Light, But Fire with your students? Thanks to Courtney Harper for developing non-curriculum specific resources that she has shared:
Here is Courtney's description:
They are sort of a synthesis/fusion of Kay's ideas around creating the "safe space" and an article from Science Primer I read in the UCI MAT program about "Talk Moves" that teachers can use to facilitate discussion and critical thinking that I sort of morphed into something accessible for students with sentence starters and frames they can use. I introduced it to my LC2H kids yesterday in preparation for a whole class discussion on Monday and some of the more intense discussions we'll be having over the coming units. That said, it's not really tied to a specific curriculum, so I figure it could be a resource to help anyone struggling with how to create a safe space that nurtures and encourages discussion as well as how to help kiddos, even those shy ones, engage in that discussion. Anyway, please feel free to use or share if these are helpful 🙂
