Practice Problem 2: Space Exploration
Students had their first timed competition with our second practice problem. We worked in the Step Room for almost 2 hours and enjoyed snacks while they worked. My 6th grade groups had only ever completed the first 2 steps, so this was a big leap for them to aim for all 6. I was impressed with how they worked together, respecting opinions, and making action plans. It's a pleasant surprise to see my mostly 8th grade teams work so cohesively through the process. Given that it is a practice problem, students are able to do touch ups to their packets all the way up until Friday the 19th. Our final problem, which is the qualifier for state, will be in February. Our practices have officially switched to Wednesdays only.
Greater Dane Anthology Project
Entries Due January 15th
The Greater Dane Anthology information was shared with students in mid November. My hope with an earlier roll out was to have more participation than last year. We have already exceeded last year's total number of entries, which is wonderful. Students in 5th through 8th grade are able to enter writing, poetry, art, and cartoons to me. If they have any questions, I am happy to answer. Editing is also something that I am allowed to do for them, so students have been submitting early in order to receive feedback from me. Thus far everything submitted has really impressed me. Please encourage any story writers, poets or speech makers to submit a piece that they are proud of. Rubrics can be shared if students need guidance in that direction. Both libraries have previous copies of The Anthology to help get an idea for the quality of work submitted. Writing can be submitted via a Google Doc and then have them share it with me. This is going to be a great showing for Mount Horeb!
