Principal Message

Welcome back! I hope you have had a wonderful summer filled with exciting adventures and relaxation. I can't believe that this is already my tenth year as the principal at Oakview. Time sure does fly when you are doing a job that you absolutely love.

Staff has been working hard to get ready for the start of the year. We are so excited to welcome back our returning students and to meet all of our new students. We do have some new teachers that are joining our staff this year. Alivia Tithoff will be our new 4th grade teacher and she is paired up with Mrs. Taylor. In third grade, we have Rachel Schultz joining our team from Gateway. She will be paired up with Mrs. Dean. We will also have five sections of third grade this year and we have recently hired a teacher in that position.

I look forward to partnering with you to make this year a great learning experience for your child. I can't wait to see all the amazing things they accomplish!

Sincerely,

Jim Alspaugh

Principal, Oakview South Elementary

Class Lists

Your child's classroom teacher will be available on our Parent Portal on Friday, August 21 at 3:00 pm.

Open House

Our Open House will be on Wednesday, August 26th from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. To try and reduce some congestion, we will stagger the times based on last name. A-M will be from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm and N-Z will be from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Please try to stick with your time if feasible, but we understand if you can’t because of schedule conflicts.

Water bottles

We have added two water bottle stations at Oakview, so we now have 4 in the building. New state law prohibits us from having kids fill water bottles from unfiltered stations. I am excited that we have the new stations, but that is still 4 stations for 350 students. Please make sure that you child arrives at school with an already filled water bottle each day. Thank you!

Office Procedures for Early Pick Ups and Late Drop Offs

When your student is coming to school late or being picked up early please come into the office to sign them out. This allows us to make lunch provisions and correct our attendance records.

If your child arrives after 8:40, he/she is considered absent for the morning. If your child leaves before 2:37, then that is also considered a half-day absence for the afternoon. That is why, even if your son or daughter is only late for school or leaves early, absences can add up quickly. Please make every effort to arrive on time and schedule appointments for after school.

Pick Up/Drop Off Reminders

At Oakview, we have multiple places where students are dropped off or picked up. We have bus riders getting on their busses in the front of the school and we have pick up/drop off students going through the drive that wraps around to the back of our school.

  • Students should not be dropped off before 7:55 am and walkers should not arrive before that time. We do not have supervision until 7:55 and it is unsafe for them to be unattended.
  • Please continue to stick to the designated areas for drop off and pick up.
  • Communication in change of plans to the office is vital. Please make sure to do so in a timely manner so the office can communicate with all the parties involved.
  • If you decide to park to pick up/drop off your child, make sure to walk with them across the parking lot. We want everyone to remain safe during this busy and chaotic time.
  • Please do not pass other cars in the pick up line and be respectful of everyone picking up. The first car may pull up to spot 1 in the pickup line.

Lunch and Breakfast

Lunch and breakfast will be free again this year! You can find the school menu on the district website.

You may not realize this, but Oakview gets federal funds for being a Title 1 building. This allows us to have extra adults in the building to help service and support more students. For example, two years ago we created a teacher interventionist position to help give extra support to struggling students. To remain a Title 1 building, we need your help. We know that lunch is free this year, but our Title status is dependent on everyone filling out an Education Benefits Form. If you haven't already, please fill out this form. Thank you!!!
