May 3, 2024

Welcome to May! We have many exciting events planned for the month! Field trips, concerts, Track Meet, Assemblies, and the High School Senior Walk! The 4th & 5th grade Talent Show is TONIGHT at 6:30pm

PSSAs

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students worked hard on their ELA, Math and Science PSSA tests last week and this week. Congrats to all of them!

Lost and Found

Due to the crazy weather we have been having we have A LOT of sweatshirts in the lost and found again. Please put your child's name in their clothes, this allows us to return lost items. If your child is missing something, please ask them to check for it in the Lost and Found. All items will be donated at the end of the school year.

Thank you!

Thank you to all the parents that came out to help with our 3rd Annual Planting day! We are so grateful for the leadership of our Garden Committee and Mrs. Quinn! All 548 students put their hands in the dirt and had a part in preparing and planting our garden for this coming growing season. Remember, there are plenty of opportunities for our families to work in the garden over the summer! Keep an eye out for sign ups.

Please see flyers below for PMS Children's show - TOMORROW and Fall Flag Football.

Many of our lives have been touched in one way or another by illness or disease. Each year, with your support, our students come together to create a meaningful way to make a positive difference in other people’s lives. This year our school will continue to work with the Unite for HER organization to join together in the fight against cancer. Unite for HER is a local organization that provides funding and support to women throughout Chester County who have just been diagnosed or are currently fighting breast cancer. THIS Friday, May 10th. Students will be walking or jogging around a course on the field (weather permitting), and are invited to wear PINK.

This year, those students who turn in their PAWS tickets will have a chance to "pie" a teacher if we raise $2000. Please consider helping us support a wonderful local cause.

We thank you in advance for your support. Cash donations sent next week are welcome, you may also donate online if you wish using the link below.

Now that we are into the spring season, it is allergy season, but there are many other illnesses circulating. Please keep you child(ren) home and treat their symptoms.

Students should remain home until symptoms have significantly improved (especially a cough) and after they have been fever free for 24 hours without the benefit of fever reducing medication. Please update pick up patrol when your child(ren) is absent. Send a note in to Mrs. Fithian for any days they are absent.

From the Wellness Committee:

Now that Spring has sprung, it is healthy for children to get outside to play!

Here are some healthy tips:

  1. When children come back inside for the evening, wipe their hair with a damp cloth. This removes pollen and is especially helpful for children who have seasonal allergies.
  2. Have children wash their hands.
  3. Launder clothing to remove pollens and allergens.
  4. Wear a good fitting helmet when riding bikes, skateboards or wearing roller skates or roller blades and wear light colored or reflective clothing, especially at dusk.
  5. Always drink lots of water.

Volunteering Information

A few things to note:

1) Volunteers must have clearances.

2) Younger siblings are not permitted at school while you volunteer.

3) Volunteers are held to the same confidentiality standards as any WCASD employee.

4) While you may see and interact with your child when you are volunteering, you are here to assist all children.

5) Volunteer links will be sent out every other month for two months at a time.

When your child is absent please update Pick Up Patrol to reflect this AND send us an email or note after the absence. Please also use PUP to communicate any appointments (late arrival/early dismissal) and/or any changes to your child's dismissal plan.

A few things to note:

  • Pick Up means you are driving through the car line to get your child after 3:30
  • Early Dismissal is for when you are signing your child out before 3:30pm for any reason
  • Walker means you are walking to school or parking your car and walking up to retrieve your child.

Even with Pick Up Patrol, if your child is absent, we must have a note from you to explain the absence within 3 days of your child's return. Otherwise the absence is marked as Unlawful and you will be receiving a letter from the office. (No one likes sending or receiving these letters!)

Each child is permitted 10 parent notes and 5 family vacation days each year for absences. Please use the family vacation form below or email me (pmerten@wcasd.net) with vacation requests.

Doctor’s notes are appreciated whenever you see a doctor due to illness.
