Teacher Training
Faculty and staff participated in several professional development workshops in October. A group of middle and high school educators gathered for a professional development workshop led by the "Discussion Project," while several elementary and middle school educators attended a “Word Origins” training session led by the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI). Back at the high school, the science department worked with Dr. David Jacob of Science Education Innovations for a session on research.

Pond Study
The crisp fall weather is perfect for an outdoor lesson! Fifth-grade science students visited the Outdoor Education Center (OEC) this month for a pond study. Veolia Visits

During her time with each class, Kroll taught students about the water molecule and density. Following their discussion, she grabbed a pitcher and led students in group-based experiments. Actions That Matter
“Our actions matter and impact not only us but other people.” Acting Principal Dr. Myrtelle Mehu welcomed educators from the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education for a visit with fourth-grade classes. “We will teach you that your actions have ripple effects,” the Center’s Laura Katz told students before guiding them through four “situation stations.” Read more in our Facebook post.
Fire Prevention Week
October kicked off with Fire Prevention Week! Each year, members of the Nanuet Fire Department visit our elementary schools to share important lessons on how to stay safe. The 2026 theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The campaign highlights the importance of safely buying, charging and recycling lithium-ion batteries.
