Dear Farmington View Families,

Next week, our school will conduct a lockout drill. We cannot share the exact date and time of the drill. The purpose of a lockout drill is to practice the response to an active or potential threat outside our school. Staff will prepare students for the drill and support individual students as needed. We expect the students to follow their teacher’s instructions. Students who are outside of the school will be brought inside at the beginning of the drill. Once all students and staff are inside the building, normal operations will continue. The drill will end

with an announcement from the main office, indicating that everything is clear and the drill has concluded. Learn more about safety drills and the Standard Response Protocol on our website. If you have questions please contact me at Natasha Echeverria @ 503-844-1735.

Thank you,

Natasha Echeverria

Principal

Atentamente,

Natasha Echeverria

Directora

November & December Family STEAM Challenge November & December Family STEAM Challenge

November and December Family STEAM Challenge

Due: Wednesday, December 13, 2023

Family challenges are a fun, optional activity for our families at Farmington View. They will be available each month. If you choose to participate, find a day to complete the challenge with your family. As you complete the challenge, fill out this paper. Once you have completed the challenge and filled out the paper, turn it into the office along with your engineering project. On the last day of the challenge, we will randomly draw one paper. These families will earn a STEAM related prize. Students will receive their prize the following Monday.

For our second challenge, we will be engineers! As a school, we are going to create a Farmington View sign that is made by you. Each family that chooses to participate will get a letter that they need to design out of recycled materials. These letters will spell out Farmington View Bobcats, and they will be on display in our Innovation Workshop!

STEP ONE: If you want to create a letter, please go to the office in the morning to choose your letter. We want to have one of each letter, so we do not end up with 7 of one letter!

Then, you can begin your design.

ASK:

Your Mission: Can you design a 3D, freestanding letter from the alphabet out of recycled materials?

Constraints:

  1. You must use recycled materials.

  2. Your letter needs to be between 10-15 inches tall.

  3. It needs to be three-dimensional.

  4. Your letter needs to stand on its own. It cannot be taped to the ground or lean against the wall.

Supplies:

  • Any recycled material!

Attendance Matters Attendance Matters

Regular, on-time attendance is essential to students’ education. Too many absences - excused or unexcused - can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. Did you know that missing just two days of school per month means a student loses 10% of their instruction for the school year? Learn more about the importance of attendance, download an attendance tracker, and see support strategies on our website. Of course, attendance does not take priority over your health! If you are too sick for school, please stay home and access your work remotely until you are feeling better.
Absences add up - 9 or less is best!

What are we focused on at Farmington View? What are we focused on at Farmington View?

At Farmington View Elementary School, we know, value, and empower every student. With that, our school is focusing on phonics, and phonics in Spanish for our K-1 Spanish speaking students. Additionally, in math we are focusing on high leverage strategies and number sense during our math blocks. As a STEAM school our focus is on providing our students access to integrated STEAM lessons on a regular basis through our innovation workshop. In order to support an environment where students feel valued and empowered our school is integrating social emotional learning by providing students access to lessons daily. These steps will ensure all our students are successful through their K-12 school years and have the opportunities to achieve their dreams!
