Good morning Cannon families,

Happy New Year to all of our wonderful families! We hope your winter break was filled with rest, laughter, and quality time together. As we open our doors for the second half of the school year, we are energized and excited to see our students' smiling faces again. As a reminder, students return Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Before we headed off for the holiday break, our hallways were filled with music and laughter! We were treated to a beautiful performance by our school choir, led by the talented Ms. Jenny Rios. Their hard work and harmony truly set a joyful tone for the season.

The excitement continued with a fabulous theatrical production of North Pole’s Got Talent, performed by the CTMS Theatre students. Our students were captivated by the talent and energy brought to the stage by these middle schoolers. It was the perfect way to celebrate our vibrant arts community before the holidays!

We are delighted to share that our Middle-of-Year (MOY) iReady Diagnostic testing complete!

A huge shout-out goes to our incredible scholars! They approached the testing with impressive seriousness and worked diligently to show us all of the amazing academic growth they have achieved so far this year. Their effort is commendable!

What Happens Next?

  • Full Reports: Comprehensive iReady reports will be sent home to all families during the first school week of January.

  • In the meantime: We encourage you to sit down with your child this week, have them log in to iReady through Classlink, and have a conversation about their hard work and progress, celebrating their growth from the beginning of the year until now. Thank you for continuing to support their learning journey!

Our hearts are full as we return from the winter break. Thanks to your incredible generosity during our Angel Tree drive, we were able to provide food and toys to 17 children within our own school community, ensuring their holiday was bright and joyful.

We also want to extend a special thank you to Living Word Lutheran Church for their generous support in providing clothing for our families. It is truly inspiring to see our parents, staff, and community partners come together to care for one another. Thank you for modeling such compassion for our students!

Counselor’s Corner

This months focus is COOPERATION. One way to think about cooperation “is working together to reach shared goals.” During our lesson we will be practicing cooperation with peers by completing fun challenges. As a family, talk about how the definition applies to how you work together at home. What are some goals you share?

Contact Mrs. Coburn

If you would like Mrs. Coburn to contact you or check on your student, you can complete the following link: Request to Talk to Counselor

Please be advised: If you make any changes to your Skyward form for Senate Bill 12 (Counseling Services, Health Services, or Club Participation), you must notify the campus support staff either verbally or via email. The Skyward system does not alert staff of resubmissions, so your communication is necessary to ensure your changes are received.

2026-2027 Instructional Calendar Approved

The GCISD Instructional Calendar for the 2026-2027 school year was approved by the Board of Trustees at its December 15 Regular Meeting. GCISD’s first day of school will be Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The calendar meets the minimum 75,600 instructional minutes required for students, includes the contract length required for staff and meets other parameters set by the Texas Education Agency, including state assessment dates. The presented calendar was developed following review and input sessions with the District Leadership Team, campus leadership, campus team leads, and the District Excellence Committee.

Now that the GCISD Instructional Calendar has been approved, iUniversity Prep and Collegiate Academy will develop calendars specialized to the specifications of their programs, and those will be shared with their students and families.
