Dear Families,

It’s been a fantastic week at McGovern! The children are settling beautifully into their school routines and making wonderful progress—from building new friendships and growing more independent in the classroom. A personal highlight for me was hearing children talking to each other in their native language while waiting for their car pick up. We are fostering a community here where everyone is not just welcomed, but celebrated for being who they are. We are kind, hard working, and inclusive. Reading, writing, and math are in full swing, and students are thoroughly engaged in their allied arts classes (art, music, wellness, science, and library). Keep up the good work arriving on time at 8:35 each morning! Thank you.

I can! You can! We all can!

Have a great weekend,

Shelby Holt

School Site Council Interest

Under Massachusetts General Law (M.G.L. c. 71, § 59C), a School Council (often called a School Site Council) is defined as a representative, building based advisory committee established at every public school to assist the principal in adopting educational goals, identifying student needs, reviewing the annual building budget, and formulating a school improvement plan.

I am excited to begin our School Site Council (SSC) for the 2026–2027 school year at McGovern! The SSC will bring together families, educators, and school leadership to collaborate on school goals. I have our teacher representatives and am now looking to find parents.

McGovern School Site Council will meet from 3:20-4:20 PM on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, November 10

Veteran's Day Display

As we plan ahead to Veteran's Day on Wednesday, November 11, we would like to create a meaningful display bulletin board for the month of November honoring the veterans in our greater McGovern community. We would love families with active service members or veterans to send in a photograph of their special veteran in uniform (with their kids if possible!). Our intention is that these photos will spark conversations that teach kids about these special members of our community.

Please submit a 4" x 6" photo by Wednesday, October 28, with your child's name and room number, as well as which branch their special veteran/active duty member served on the back of the photo so we can properly return them. Thank you to all in our community who have served!

Bathroom Update Bathroom Update

Pod Bathrooms

Construction and work on our student bathrooms continued throughout the week, and we are excited to share that we made great progress! Several of our indoor student bathrooms are now open and available for use. The remaining indoor bathrooms are nearing completion, with finishing touches being completed, and we anticipate that they will open early next week.

United Rentals will begin removing some of the outdoor modular bathroom facilities. We will continue to retain some modular facilities on site while the remaining indoor bathrooms are completed. Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility as we work toward having all of our student bathrooms fully operational!

Ms. Lueken brings nearly 20 years of dedicated teaching and leadership experience to Medway. She is deeply committed to fostering a supportive, enriching, and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Most recently, Ms. Lueken served as an English Language Education Teacher in the Norwood Public Schools. Her previous leadership includes serving as the Lower School Director at the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. A graduate of the State University of New York with a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish, she also holds a Master of Arts from Western Governors University. School Start Time Survey

As you may recall, Medway Schools formed a School Start Time Committee last spring. This Committee, made up of teachers, family, and student representatives, is charged with making a recommendation to the School Committee on whether to maintain or alter school start times. To make an informed decision, the Committee is looking for family input and asks that you please review the research on school start times and complete this survey by October 9

SEPAC Newsletter

The Medway Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is a family-led group that works in partnership with families, schools, and the district to support students with disabilities and their families. SEPAC provides opportunities to connect, share resources, learn about student services, and strengthen family-school partnerships.

All families and community members are welcome to read SEPAC newsletters and explore the resources, events, and information shared. You do not need to be a SEPAC member or have a child receiving special education services to stay connected.

SEPAC newsletters and information will be updated throughout the school year, and we encourage families to check back regularly for upcoming events, resources, and opportunities to get involved.

Trunk or Treat

The Medway SEPAC started our annual Trunk-or-Treat with one important goal in mind: to create a fun, welcoming, and inclusive community event where all of our children can come together, see familiar Medway staff, connect with our town organizations and our sport school teams, and simply enjoy being together.

This year's Trunk-or-Treat will be held on Friday, October 16 at 4:30 PM at Medway High School. Please click the flyer below for more information about the event, as well as registration. Please register for this event by October 2.

RESOURCES RESOURCES

Free & Reduced Program

Medway Public Schools is pleased to continue offering free breakfast and lunch to all students during the 2026-2027 school year through the Commonwealth's support of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Every student enrolled in Medway Public Schools is eligible to receive healthy school meals at no cost, regardless of household income.

Although meals are available free of charge to all students, we strongly encourage families to complete a Meal Benefit Application if they believe they may qualify. Meal Benefit Applications help determine eligibility for additional benefits while also providing valuable data that supports school funding and access to important community resources. Families who qualify may also be eligible for reduced fees for certain school and community programs, including transportation, athletics, Chromebook fees, preschool tuition, field trips and other school fees, and Medway Community Education programs. Eligibility for these additional benefits requires families to complete a separate Sharing Form authorizing Medway Public Schools to share their meal benefit eligibility information with the programs they select. Applications, eligibility information, and additional program details are available on the Medway Public Schools website under Free & Reduced Lunch. Families with questions or who would like assistance completing an application may contact Amy Jacobs at 508-533-3222, ext. 3160 or amjacobs@medwayschools.org.

REMINDERS REMINDERS

CORI Forms

For the safety of all students, any family member or volunteer who plans to participate in school activities, field trips, or volunteer opportunities may be required to complete a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) form. Should you anticipate chaperoning or volunteering at any of our district schools or departments throughout the 2026-2027 school year, you will need a completed CORI/SORI background check prior to the event.

Please complete a CORI/SORI Release Form and submit the completed form along with a copy of your drivers license to any of our school secretaries for completion. You can submit your completed CORI to the main office, or email a copy along with a picture of your license to Mrs. Rice at amrice@medwayschools.org.
