Heights Happenings
Eastern Heights Elementary School, May 2026
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that, as I write this, May 1st is tomorrow. Where has the year gone? Our students have grown and changed so much this year and it has been so fun to watch them. As we say goodbye to our 4th graders, we wish them luck (and a reminder to continue working hard and being their best selves) in 5th grade!
The last few events of the year are listed below in the May calendar so please make sure to check it out. We have a lot of fun things planned while students are still learning and growing. Every minute counts!
Thank you to all of you for your ongoing support and participation in your student's education. We appreciate you! Have a wonderful, relaxing summer.
See you in August!
Warmly,
Brenda Wittman
Principal
A Note from Mrs. Adams
Hello Families!
Can you believe we’ve reached the finish line? It feels like just yesterday we were labeling school supplies and finding our cubbies, and now the end of the year is suddenly here! While we are all looking forward to the sunshine, it’s always a bit of a shock how quickly the days flew by. We are so proud of the growth your students have shown!
To keep that momentum going through the break, here are a few ways to balance summer fun with a routine that makes the return in August much smoother:
- The "Summer Slide" Bridge: Keep a simple daily routine, like "20 minutes of reading before pool time." It keeps their brains active without feeling like extra homework.
- Morning Rituals: Even if you sleep in, try to keep a consistent morning sequence (breakfast, getting dressed, teeth brushed) so the transition back to school-day mornings isn't a total system shock.
- Journal the Adventure: Encourage your child to write two or three sentences a day about their summer highlights. It’s a great way to practice handwriting and reflection while capturing memories.
- Count the Days: As August approaches, start shifting bedtimes back by 15 minutes each night to help their internal clocks adjust.
Enjoy every minute of this well-deserved break! We can’t wait to see those refreshed smiles back in the hallways soon.

EASTERN HEIGHTS CAMPUS TRAFFIC
Campus traffic rules are in place to keep all students and staff safe during arrival and dismissal times. We appreciate you honoring these rules to keep everyone safe!
- Drive slowly and stay alert while on campus; refrain from cell phone use while driving on campus
- Drive slowly and follow all building staff directions while driving on campus
- Use crosswalks when walking your children to & from the building
- Cars must not stop in a crosswalk; while cars are waiting to move, crosswalks must be free for people to cross
- Cars should enter campus for drop off and pick up at the Prospect/Cornell entrance and follow the ring road around campus. Using this entrance allows the smoothest flow of traffic.
- There is no parking in the pickup lane during drop off or dismissal; this helps the flow of traffic move smoothly
- Cars should make only 1 lane of traffic on the campus (inside lane closest to the building); do not pull out and pass cars that are in the pick-up lane
- Cars should refrain from entering the bus lane on the north side of the building; this lane is used for all ECS busses as well as all daycare and after school program vans.
- Drop-off & pickup your student using the spaces between the 2 orange cones directly in front of the building
Thank you for helping us make drop-off & pickup safety the #1 priority!

Safety Drills
With safety as a top priority of the Eastern Heights Campus staff, we want you to be aware that you may see us outside practicing a drill as we start the school year. Please remember to drive slowly and/or stop to allow the drill to proceed safely. And, be sure to have your student dress appropriately for the weather and know that we practice these drills with all our students to keep everyone safe!
