January 2026
Welcome back, and Happy New Year, Dragon families!
I hope you enjoyed a restful and joyful holiday break filled with time to recharge and create special memories with loved ones. As we begin the spring semester, I want to thank you for your continued partnership and support of our schools.
Carroll ISD is proud to serve a community that values excellence, tradition, and student success. With your encouragement at home and the dedication of our teachers and staff on campus, our Dragons are set up for a strong second half of the year—academically, socially, and mentally.
We are excited for the learning, growth, and celebrations ahead this semester, and we look forward to continuing to work together to help every student thrive. Thank you for being such an important part of what makes Carroll ISD so special.

Leadership in Action
SLC Field Trip Brings History to Life
This week, the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council (SLC) took learning beyond the classroom walls with an educational field trip to the JFK Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas. Joined by the Superintendent, Dr. John Irish, Executive Director of Communications Jeff Brady, and district staff, the group of Carroll juniors and seniors experienced a powerful and meaningful opportunity to study American history, civic responsibility, and leadership through one of the most significant locations in our nation’s story.
The field trip was designed to do more than simply teach historical facts. Students explored the legacy of President John F. Kennedy and the impact of national leadership during moments of crisis and change. Walking through the museum exhibits and standing in the historic setting of Dealey Plaza helped bring history to life, while also encouraging students to reflect on how leadership, courage, and service can shape communities and a nation.
The experience also aligned closely with the purpose of the Student Leadership Council: helping students grow into confident, thoughtful leaders who understand the importance of civic engagement, respectful discussion, and serving others. Throughout the visit, students had the chance to ask questions, participate in conversations with district leadership, and strengthen the leadership skills that will guide them far beyond high school.
The Council is made up of high-achieving juniors and seniors who are selected for their character, leadership potential, and desire to make a positive impact. SLC members participate in experiences throughout the year that promote teamwork, build social skills, and develop leadership through service, district involvement, and learning opportunities like this week’s field trip.
Students who complete the program are eligible to receive several meaningful benefits, including:
• 25 community service hours for each year of participation
• A letter of recommendation from the Superintendent to support college admissions and scholarship applications
• An SLC honor cord to wear at graduation
By connecting students directly with district leaders and providing real-world learning experiences, Carroll ISD’s SLC program continues to create meaningful opportunities for students to grow in confidence, expand their perspectives, and strengthen their ability to lead with purpose.
The Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council (SLC) is a student government organization open to Carroll ISD juniors and seniors, with sign-ups held each fall.

Board-Approved Realignment Plan
The Carroll ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously on January 12 to approve the Budget Reduction Advisory (BRAC) Committee Tiger Team II recommendation to close Durham Intermediate School, launching a long-term plan to realign the district’s middle-level campuses beginning in Fall 2027. The change will transition Carroll ISD to two campuses serving 6th-8th grades, while keeping 5th grade students on their home elementary campuses.
This decision comes as part of a five-year plan created by the BRAC and is driven by continued enrollment decline, with Carroll ISD down more than 650 students since peak enrollment in 2019. Because funding is tied directly to enrollment, those declines have increased budget pressures. The realignment plan is designed to improve operational efficiency while protecting classroom resources and maintaining the District’s strong academic programs.
“Carroll ISD is committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for every Dragon,” said Board President Cam Bryan. “This move allows us to strengthen the middle-level academic model, ensure long-term financial sustainability, and plan deliberately for Carroll’s future.”
Planning will be guided by transparency and collaboration, including campus events, staff and parent involvement, and regular updates throughout the transition. You may read the District's press release on the approved realignment plan here.

Carroll Wins 3rd Place in Victory+ Challenge
We have exciting news to share—and it’s all thanks to you!
During the Dragon Football playoff season, Carroll ISD participated in the Victory+ Online Streaming Challenge, a community-wide campaign that encouraged fans to tune in and support our Dragons through online streaming. Thanks to the incredible participation from our students, families, alumni, and community members, Carroll ISD proudly earned 3rd place in the challenge.
As a result of this outstanding support, Victory+ representatives will be on-site soon to present Carroll ISD with a $15,000 award. These funds will provide much-needed support for our district and help strengthen opportunities for students across Carroll ISD.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who streamed the games, shared the challenge, and encouraged others to participate. This is a perfect example of what makes Dragon Nation so special—when our community rallies together, great things happen for our students.
Thank you again, Dragon families, for helping us turn school spirit into meaningful support. We are proud to be Dragons.
Head Football Coach Hiring Process Update
At this week’s Board meeting, Board President Cam Bryan shared an update on our search for Carroll ISD’s next head football coach. This is an important decision for our District, and I appreciate the Board’s commitment to conducting a thoughtful, transparent, and thorough hiring process. Interviews will begin within the next week, and a hiring committee has been formed that includes a strong cross section of community members, District administrators, and trustees.
President Bryan also clarified that we plan to separate the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach roles moving forward. The Athletic Director position will be filled through a separate process after a head football coach has been selected, allowing each role the attention and focus it deserves.
As always, we appreciate your support and understanding. If you have questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Board President Bryan or to me directly.
