From the Principal's Desk

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, our school community is buzzing with energy and anticipation. Advanced Placement (AP) exams are now underway, and we commend our students for their hard work and dedication as they demonstrate their learning. In that spirit, Keyport High School is proud to introduce a new tradition recognizing students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement on their AP exams. Students who earn scores of 4 or 5 will be honored with commemorative jerseys, while those who achieve a score of 3 will be recognized on a banner displayed within the school. These accomplishments reflect a high level of dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence, and we are incredibly proud of our students for their commitment to challenging themselves. This tradition not only celebrates their success, but also sets a standard for future students to strive toward as we continue to raise the bar at KHS.

We also want to remind families that NJSLA testing will continue the week of May 11; please help ensure students are well-rested and arrive on time each day, with their charged Chromebook, so they can do their very best. Please also encourage them to do their very best on this extremely important assessment.

At the same time, preparations for prom are in full swing. This special event is a highlight for many of our students, and we encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and make lasting, positive memories. We look forward to seeing our students enjoy this milestone occasion.

As we begin to wrap up the school year, there are still many exciting events ahead, including awards ceremonies, field trips, and end-of-year celebrations. These moments reflect the incredible talent, resilience, and spirit of our students and staff.

Thank you for your continued support in making this a successful and memorable school year. Let’s finish strong together!

Curriculum in Action: Drama Beyond the Classroom

Our KHS Drama students recently took their learning beyond the classroom with an exciting “Drama Takeover” in New York City experiencing the magic of Broadway firsthand. This trip provided students with the opportunity to see a professional production, analyze performance techniques, and deepen their understanding of theater arts. Experiences like these bring curriculum to life, allowing students to connect classroom learning with real-world application while inspiring creativity, passion, and a deeper appreciation for the arts.

Google Tips & Tools

Google continues to introduce helpful updates that support student learning and productivity. New features in Google Docs and Slides make it easier to format assignments, organize ideas, and create more polished presentations. Enhanced commenting and suggestion tools also allow for clearer feedback and more meaningful collaboration between students and teachers.

Students can also take advantage of built-in smart tools to help brainstorm ideas, revise writing, and summarize information more efficiently. Google Drive improvements are making it easier to keep files organized and accessible, helping students stay on top of their work. By using these tools effectively, students can strengthen their organization, creativity, and independence in their learning.

Supporting Wellness During a Busy Season

As the school year picks up pace with activities, athletics, and end-of-year responsibilities, it is important for students to prioritize both their physical and mental well-being. Managing stress is a key part of staying healthy, and students are encouraged to take short breaks, stay organized, and ask for support when needed. Balancing schoolwork with downtime can help maintain focus and prevent burnout during this busy time of year.

In addition, maintaining healthy routines continues to play an important role in overall wellness. Eating regular meals, getting enough sleep, and staying active all contribute to improved energy, concentration, and mood. Taking time to unplug from screens and spend time outdoors or with friends can also have a positive impact on mental health. By making small, consistent choices each day, students can support their well-being and stay ready to meet the demands of the school day.National Library of Medicine

Attendance Matters: Make Every Day Count

As the school year continues, maintaining consistent attendance remains essential for student success. Each day in the classroom provides valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and connection that cannot be fully replicated when absent. Regular attendance helps students stay on pace with instruction, actively participate in class discussions, and build strong academic habits.

At Keyport High School, we encourage students to make attendance a priority by being present, prepared, and engaged each day. Establishing routines, planning ahead, and staying committed to daily attendance supports both academic achievement and personal growth. Showing up each day is one of the most important steps students can take toward reaching their goals.
