With the assistance of a STEM grant and led by Mrs. Ambroziak, Whitney Elementary has created a Community Garden behind their school. Students have seen plants and vegetables grow in their classrooms and have started to transfer the plants outdoors in the garden. Click HERE to see the work the students have put into creating the garden and their excitement to see what the garden may have waiting for them when they return to school in August.
SPACE CONSTRAINTS AT SCS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS & PRESCHOOL
For many, our first home is not our "forever" home. Whether it's an expanding family or wanting upgrades that make our houses more up to date, many outgrow their first home. With that same lens for Strongsville, our District needs more space, due to growing enrollment at our elementary schools. We are running out of space at all 5 elementary schools and our Preschool. Our staff and teachers continue to creatively make space - whether it's teacher/student learning in hallways, makeshift rooms not originally intended for learning, or additions of mobile units - these temporary solutions are not what we want for our students’ learning environments. This is why our Board continues to discuss a Bond Issue for our District, which follows a well thought out plan developed by our Elementary Facilities Planning Committee, recommending construction of three new elementary schools for SCS. Be on the lookout for Community Town Halls this summer, where you will be able to provide your feedback on the future of elementary schools in our District.

CHAPMAN 3RD GRADERS BRING “WAX MUSEUM” TO LIFE
3rd grade students in Mrs. Holden’s and Mrs. Marlowe’s classes had the opportunity to bring famous people to life in their very own “Wax Museum” in Chapman’s gymnasium. The students read a biography, wrote a book report, and then shared the facts they learned about their person in an interactive event this week at Chapman. It was an awesome way to “meet” Jackie Robinson, Harry Houdini, Rosa Parks, Dolly Parton, and many more! Click HERE for a folder of pictures from this fantastic event!
SMS 8TH GRADE BAND RECEIVES SUPERIOR (I) RATING AT OMEA CONTEST
Congratulations to the SMS 8th Grade Band for earning a Superior (I) Rating at the OMEA Large Group Contest recently held at Avon Lake High School. They were one of only a few bands to receive a perfect score. Way to go Mustangs!
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MCKENZIE KLINGENSMITH, TITLE I READING TEACHER AT MURASKI ELEMENTARY
McKenzie Klingensmith is finishing her first year with our District. “Miss K” - as many of her students know her - earned her undergraduate degree from Lourdes University. Mr. Griffen, Principal at Muraski says this about McKenzie: “McKenzie has been a phenomenal addition to the Muraski staff, where she is positive, collaborative, and has worked really hard to establish great relationships with our staff and students. ‘Miss K’ has been instrumental in ensuring that we provide quality reading support and intervention to students to assist in closing achievement gaps. She works so hard for the students that she serves!”
“As a Title I reading teacher, one of the things I enjoy most is the opportunity to work across multiple grade levels. I love working with small groups because it allows me to build strong connections with each student and tailor instruction to meet their individual needs. It's rewarding to witness their growth over the course of the year, and I especially enjoy celebrating their progress with them. Sharing their progress with them helps build their confidence and reinforces their love of learning, which makes me so proud,” said ‘Miss K.’
“What I love most about my job at Muraski is the opportunity to work with all of the teachers and staff across the building. Since I work with every grade level from Kindergarten through 5th grade, I am able to build strong relationships with everyone in the building. It creates a sense of community that I am proud to call home.”
Thank you ‘Miss K’ for the positive connections you are making with Muraski students and for helping to build reading skills throughout the school! #ModelMustang

FORMER PRESIDENT ULYSSES S. GRANT VISITS SMS
Northeast Ohio stepped back in time this week to experience a living history event like no other as General and President U.S. Grant, portrayed by acclaimed historian Dr. Curt Fields, visited schools, libraries, and historical sites across the region to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the end of the U.S. Civil War. Dr. Fields brought the remarkable story of U.S. Grant to 10 locations throughout Northeast Ohio as part of a weeklong "Cleveland Campaign" - including a stop at Strongsville Middle School! SMS was one of only five local schools to be visited by Dr. Fields. 8th graders and Mr. Boros’ SHS AP U.S. History students were part of the “Meet U.S. Grant” presentation, offering an overview of President Grant’s life and the many challenges he overcame.
