- writing piece must be created by the student without the help of others
- entries do not have to be work completed for a class assignment
- 1900-word maximum length
- individuals only, no group entries
- can be typed or legibly hand-written
- writing pieces should be turned in to homeroom teachers by January 17, 2020 - be sure student's name and Homeroom teacher are clearly written or typed on writing piece
- one winner will be chosen per grade level by a team of scorers to represent CSD at the regional competition
Please contact jbroman-fulks@csdecatur.net with any questions. Happy writing!

Facilities Planning Public Input Meeting: January 15, 2020
As we wrap up the previous long-range facilities plan, we begin to look forward to the future of City Schools of Decatur and how we can best meet the needs of our students and staff. We will be tapping the skills of Cooperative Strategies, who previously helped CSD with our grade configuration and redistricting work, to help lead our community input process.
Our first community meeting regarding the future of CSD facilities planning will be Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 7 p.m at Talley Street Upper Elementary. We hope you can join us and voice your views on how we can best move forward.
Hello CSD Families!
Occupational therapists Lisa Nye and Yael Cohen, and physical therapist, Laurie Sperry are hosting a fun and interactive indoor winter games night. Your student and you are invited to come learn fun game ideas and fellowship with other students. The therapists are excited to share these meaningful games where students of different skill levels can participate!

Walk & Roll – postponed until Tuesday, 1/21
Unfortunately, the weather is not looking favorable for our planned Walk & Roll tomorrow :-( Therefore, we will be postponing our first Walk&Roll for 2020 till next Tuesday, January 21. We’ll be handing out numbered certificates to all Walkers & Rollers as part of our monthly Walk & Roll book drawing. If you cannot walk all the way, consider driving to Harmony Park (corner of Mead, Oakview, and Eastlake) and walk the final 0.4 miles. There are plenty of parking spots around that area, and you’ll be sure to meet many other families doing the same. Additional 'Stop, Drop, and Walk' routes to F.Ave are found here (https://www.csdecatur.net/Page/1647).
If you must drive, please be extra cautious that morning, as there will be lots of extra children walking or riding their bikes. Give them extra room (remember, a 3 foot distance is the law, but more is always better!), as they might not be as sturdy or mindful on their bikes as adults. If you have any questions, please contact: kendallhamilton@bellsouth.net
4th Grade Movie Night – Friday, 1/24
4th grade Movie Night – featuring Spider-man Into the Spider-verse – will be held on Friday, January 24 from 6:30 - 9:00 PM. Movie Night is a free event – an opportunity for our young people to enjoy a movie, snacks, and their friends … all by themselves! We provide a bag of popcorn and the option to purchase additional snacks (with a limit of $3 spending). Kids can bring a sleeping bag or pillows to enjoy the movie in the FAVE multipurpose room. If buying snacks, please send cash--no more than $3. This movie night is for FAVE 4th grade students only, no guests. Parents drop off for this event, so we have a school administrator and parent volunteers to supervise the evening. Drop off is at 6:30 PM in the main lobby, pick up in the circle by the multipurpose room by 9:00 PM.
STUDENTS:
Please sign up here for your child to attend movie night. It is free, but we need an accurate head count for the event.
VOLUNTEERS:
We are in need of parent volunteers for 2 different shifts: popping popcorn (4:15 pm-6:15 pm), and chaperones (6:15 pm-9:15pm ish). Chaperones will assist with checking in the kids as they arrive, selling concessions, and supervising during the event. Please sign up using the link here.
All chaperones should meet in the FAVE lobby at your assigned time. This event will be for FAVE 4th graders only---HOWEVER, if you are volunteering and you have a child in another grade (or school), they are welcome to attend with you. Please just let me know via email so I can keep a running tally for the head count. Questions? Please contact: susan.hudgins@gmail.com
DEI* Movie Night Cap – 1/24
