MAP Testing Rally
Today at 2:15 PM, our school community ended our day by coming together for an energizing MAP Testing Rally to set a positive and confident tone as we head into standardized testing. The rally was led by Ms. Kfoury, our Dean of Students, and proudly supported by 5 outstanding eighth-grade student leaders who modeled energy and encouragement for all of the students present.
We talked to students about healthy and effective test-prep habits and how preparation is about mindset as much as academics. To build excitement and relieve nerves, we kicked things off with a fun energizer called “Peel Bananas,” where all of our St. Mary’s S.T.A.R.S. became bananas - laughing, moving, and getting pumped up, together!
I also reminded students one of my favorite ideas of “being like a duck.” This means staying calm and confident on the surface while working hard and steadily underneath to get to where you need to go! To help reinforce this message, each student went home with their very own rubber ducky as a reminder to be like a duck during testing and beyond.
Weekend MAP Prep Tips for Students
Get a good night’s sleep and eat healthy
Practice calm breathing and positive self-talk
Take calming breaks throughout the weekend, get fresh air, and stay active
Take a moment for prayer or quiet reflection to feel calm, focused, and confident
Believe in yourself and do your personal best
We are so proud of our students and their positive attitude heading into MAP testing. We are ready, confident, and calm, just like ducks!
Boston University Academy Partnership
Several members of our administrative team met today with Paula Jurado, Assistant Director of Admissions, and Erin Morlock, Digital Art Fellow (Social Media/Marketing) from Boston University Academy to discuss the continued growth of our partnership between the two schools. Boston University Academy (BUA) is a high school to which we have proudly sent students for several years, and they have been consistently impressed with the success of our students.
As a result, BUA is eager to deepen our partnership and give back to the Saint Mary’s community by offering free weekly services beginning next month, including tutoring, homework help, and social skills support, with even more opportunities to come. We could not be more thrilled about this budding relationship.
Boston University Academy is part of Boston University, where high school students have the unique opportunity to take college-level courses, earn college credits while completing high school, and receive guaranteed admission to Boston University. Even more, students’ financial aid is guaranteed to follow them to college, truly a remarkable blessing for our families.
Professional Development
We began the new year with a meaningful day of professional development focused on reflection, collaboration, and growth. Our faculty and staff came together for an all-hands meeting to discuss shared goals and expectations as we look ahead to the months to come.
A special thank you to Father Jonathan for joining us and delivering a thoughtful and inspiring talk on Resolutions, drawing from Pope Leo’s advice to the youth. His message encouraged us to work together as a unified faculty, continually strengthening our learning environment and striving to become the best educators we can be for our students.
We are also grateful to our Instructional Leadership Team and teacher mentors: Mrs. Porcello, Ms. Kousidis, Mrs. Palmer, and Ms. Falcone, for leading an eye-opening presentation on understanding learning differences and ensuring our teaching practices are grounded in an inclusive lens that supports all learners.
We concluded the afternoon with an off-campus team-building experience at Topgolf, providing an opportunity for connection, collaboration, and fun as we start the year energized and united in our mission.
Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week 2026 is the annual, national celebration of Catholic education in the United States, highlighting the values, community, and contributions of Catholic schools across the country. It runs from Sunday, January 25 to Saturday, January 31, 2026, and is organized by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA).
During this week, Catholic schools observe special Masses, service activities, and other events that bring together students, families, parishioners, educators, and community members to celebrate academic excellence, faith formation, service, and community spirit. The 2026 theme is “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community,” reflecting the role of Catholic education in nurturing both faith and a sense of belonging.
Each day often has a particular theme, such as celebrating the parish, students, teachers and staff, families, and the broader community, helping to showcase the unique strengths and mission of St. Mary's School.
