Low Ash Primary
Weekly round up
1.5.26
It has been another busy week in school and we can't quite believe that we are now halfway through this half term. A reminder that next week is a shorter one as Monday is a bank holiday!
Stars of the Week
Staff Star of the Week- Education Hero!
A huge well done to Mr. Hurst who won the Education Hero award at the T and A education awards last night. The award came as a total shock to Mr. Hurst having kept it a secret from him since we found out in February. I’m sure you will all agree that the reward is well- deserved. Well done Mr Hurst!

Attendance Update
Well done to the children who have had 100% attendance this week.
This week's school attendance is: 95.8%
This year's attendance to date is 95.4%.
Early Years & KS1 class of the week is Reception Base 2 with a fantastic 100% attendance!
KS2 class of the week is 3B with 99.7% attendance.
A reminder that, as a school, we are aiming for no less than 96% attendance. Our whole school attendance is creeping closer to that figure.
Year 5 trip to Yorkshire Water
5CS had a brilliant time at Yorkshire Water this week learning how our water is treated to be safe enough to drink. They looked at how to use water sustainably and went on a visit around the treatment works to see all the different tanks and processes our water goes through. The children were a credit to Low Ash and staff there commented on the wonderful depth of questions that they asked.
Reception Base 2 trip to Skipton Castle
This week Reception Base 2 visited Skipton Castle. Like Base 1, they were blessed with a lovely day which meant they could spend time outside doing their sketches of the castle.
Climate Action
Low Ash is proud to be part of the Let’s Go Zero campaign, working with a dedicated Climate Action Advisor to create a tailored Climate Action Plan and embed sustainability into every aspect of school life. We are committed to becoming a zero carbon school by 2030. To join us or find out more. visit letsgozero.org.join.
Warmer weather...water bottles, sun hats and sun cream!
A reminder that, as the weather gets warmer, it is more important than ever to send your child to school with a bottle of water. Over the past couple of weeks, more and more children have been going to the kitchen to ask Miss Lee for bottles of water. We of course have cups and tap water which pupils can drink, but a number of pupils have been asking for bottles. In sunny, hot weather please also send your child to school with a sun hat and apply sunscreen at home before school. We are of course hoping for lots of warm sunny weather as we enter the last 3 weeks of this half term...however misplaced our optimism might be!
Hayfever Medication
A reminder that, if your child needs medication for hay fever, please make sure that you give them this before the start of the school day. Thank you for your support in this.
Social Media
Please can we ask parents to avoid posting hurtful or hostile comments about the school, staff or pupils on social media. If you have a concern or complaint, please speak to your child’s class teacher, the office or follow the school’s complaints procedure so we can investigate and respond fairly — airing grievances publicly can cause distress to pupils, their families and staff as they rarely present the full picture. Posting things publicly may also limit our ability to resolve the issue.
We always take worries seriously and aim to respond quickly; if you would like help raising a concern confidentially, contact the office and we will support you.
We want to work with all parents and carers to solve any issues which might arise. Thank you for keeping our community respectful and constructive.
School fundraising
It is only 3 weeks to the school sponsored walk from Robert's Park to Bingley and back taking place on Saturday 16th May. We hope lots of you can make it!
In addition to this event, as mentioned last week, on Saturday 20th June, a group of staff from school will be taking part in the 5km inflatable race in Leeds to raise money for school.
Money raised from both events will go towards improving things for the children of Low Ash. If you would like to donate, please follow the link below.

Bowling Community Orchard
A reminder to please complete the survey linked to the Bowling Community Orchard if you can! Our Nursery children have visited this lovely local orchard for the past couple of years and it is a great learning experience. Sadly, the rent being charged to the Orchard is going to be raised by 450% however. At the moment, Lottery funding is just about covering this rent, but we don't want to lose such an amazing and valuable resource.

Sporting Update
It has been a busy week at Low Ash! There was a brilliant effort from the under 11s boys this week at Hanson Academy. They merged together with some of our old students from Hanson to play against Blakehill Primary in a game. As always, it was a very tough encounter, but there was some amazing football on show. The game ended in a 4-4 draw.
Some girls also had a fantastic morning of Padel, at Strike Padel Bradford. They got the opportunity to have a coaching session and play matches against other primary schools. This was another amazing opportunity for the children.
Sporting achievements haven't just been confined to school however. A massive well done to Isla in Year 4 who competed in the All Star World Championship. Her team finished in first place and she has returned to school with a HUGE gold medal!
Well done to everyone!

Online Safety Update - Advice on Snapchat
A research study by Ofcom has found that 50% of children aged 9-15 routinely use Social Media and online platforms for mental health advice. Unverified medical content online is concerning with the potential to cause confusion, anxiety or incorrect self-diagnoses. This week's guide (link below) provides strategies which might help you tackle misinformation effectively.
A reminder that all of our guides can be found on the online safety page of the website.
We hope you all have a lovely, long weekend and and we will see you on Tuesday. (A reminder that Monday is a bank holiday so school will be closed).
