Wylie Elementary February Family Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Happy February! This month brings with it so many opportunities to celebrate learning, kindness, and community here at Wylie Elementary. As we move through the heart of the school year, I’m so proud of the progress our students continue to make both academically and socially.
February is often called the “month of kindness and friendship,” and we’ll be focusing on those values throughout our classrooms and activities. From Valentine’s Day celebrations to discussions around empathy and inclusion, our goal is to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and valued.
We also encourage families to stay connected — check in with your child about what they’re learning, spend a few minutes reading together each night, and continue reinforcing the importance of perseverance and responsibility. Those consistent moments at home truly strengthen the work we do here at school each day.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we’re building a strong, caring community where every student can thrive.

Campus Highlights
Our 3rd graders had an exciting opportunity to visit the High School Career & Technical Center as part of their CCMR learning experience. During the visit, high school students led hands-on stations that showcased the wide variety of Career and Technical Education pathways available. Our younger learners explored different careers, asked great questions, and learned how skills they are developing now can connect to future opportunities. It was inspiring to see our students learning from one another and getting an early glimpse into the many possibilities ahead!
Counselor's Corner
Kindness: acting with understanding, generosity, and care.
Our February character word is KINDNESS. Students will explore what it means to be kind through stories, discussions, videos, and everyday classroom activities. The counselors will be visiting each classroom during February to do guidance lessons on kindness. First grade will be exploring and discussing the book, A Little Spot of Kindness by Diane Alber. Second grade with be reading the thought-provoking book, Hey, Little Ant by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. This book will leave the students a pondering decision about kindness, tolerance, and respect. Third grade students will examine kindness using the book The Bucket Filler by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer. This book illustrates the principle that when we use kindness to interact with others, we not only fill their buckets with kindness, but our own as well. However, when we choose not to be kind, we deplete our bucket and well as the buckets of other.
We appreciate your continued support in reinforcing our monthly character traits at home.

February Reminders for Families
❤️ Health & Wellness
-
Cold & flu season is still here. Please remind students to wash hands often.
-
Dress for the weather: Coats, hats, and layers help students stay comfortable during outdoor recess.
-
Rest matters: Early bedtimes help growing learners stay focused and ready to learn.
📚 Learning at Home
-
Read every day: Reading together for 15–20 minutes builds confidence and comprehension.
-
Practice basics: Quick review of sight words, math facts, and handwriting makes a big difference.
-
Talk about school: Ask your child what they learned each day — sharing builds language skills and confidence.
🎒 School Success Habits
-
Check backpacks daily: Look for notes, folders, and completed homework.
-
Label belongings: Jackets, lunchboxes, and water bottles are easier to return when labeled.
💖 Kindness & Character
-
February is a great time to practice kindness, respect, and friendship.
-
Encourage students to use kind words, include others, and ask for help when needed.
-
Talk with your child about handling big feelings and solving small problems calmly.
🏫 Attendance & Health – Working Together for Student Success
We want our students at school every day they are healthy and ready to learn. Being at school regularly helps young learners build strong routines, friendships, and academic skills.
At the same time, if your child is sick, please keep them home to rest and recover. Students do not learn well when they are ill, and staying home helps keep classmates and staff healthy, too.
If your child must miss school due to illness, teachers will help them catch up when they return. Thank you for partnering with us to support both your child’s health and learning.
