🍎 Principal News 🍎
Malvern Families,
As the month of November begins, Malvern embraces this season of gratitude and reflection. Research reminds us that practicing gratitude can improve well-being, strengthen relationships, and increase happiness.
At Malvern, there is much to be thankful for. Our dedicated staff, eager and hardworking Red Hawk scholars, and families who partner each day to make learning meaningful.
This month, the Malvern community is encouraged to build gratitude into daily life through three simple practices from The Leader in Me framework:
Reflect – Take time to notice and write down what brings gratitude each day.
Remember – Recognize growth and celebrate the progress made, both big and small.
Reach Out – Express appreciation to others, spreading kindness and positivity throughout the community.
Malvern celebrates the partnership of families who nurture and prepare their children to grow, learn, and lead. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to every parent and caregiver who helps make Malvern a place where students truly soar.
Let’s make November a month filled with gratitude, kindness, and connection.
Proud to be a Red Hawk,
Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal
Inetra Nelson, Directora y Melinna Herrera, Subdirectora

2nd Annual Balloons Over Broadway Challenge
Exciting challenges are coming this November at Malvern! Based on the book “Balloons over Broadway” we look forward to hosting all sorts of parades this month. All students K-5 are encouraged to create something for our Thanksgiving Virtual Parade. While small balloons are allowed, keep in mind that these DEFLATE and may look different during the final parade.
Lego Masters Challenge
Checkout our newest Lego Masters Challenge for November! Also in the theme of “Balloons Over Broadway” K-5 students are challenged to create a Parade Float made entirely of Legos. See guidelines and limitations for more information. Students may complete this at home or talk to their teacher about a recess pass to build in the library.

Visitors and Volunteers
MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.
A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy of your ID will not be accepted.
MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application.
MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus.
Hawk Squad Call to Action
Hawk Squad is a fun, high-energy volunteer program where we welcome students each morning with high fives, compliments, positivity, and enthusiasm as they head into class! Getting started is simple—just complete the standard MISD volunteer background check and fill out the form linked here. (Please note: by completing this form you are giving your personal information to a Malvern parent.)
In addition to morning greetings, we also help out at various school events throughout the year. Our goal is to grow Hawk Squad into a strong and lasting tradition—and we’d love for you to be a part of it!
Active members will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive, custom Hawk Squad t-shirt to wear and keep.
We welcome everyone—dads, moms, grandparents, and more! If you're ready to have fun and make a difference, sign up and join the squad. We can’t wait to meet you!
