Welcome to Preschool!
Dear Preschool Families,
Welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to welcome you and your children to the Grafton Public Schools Preschool Program. I know what a big step starting preschool can be, not only for our children, but for families too. I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you and being part of your child’s preschool experience.
I also wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Melissa Wallace, and I am the new Preschool Coordinator and Team Chairperson for Grafton Public Schools. Preschool is actually where my career in education began. I started as a preschool teacher and later had the opportunity to serve as a Preschool Coordinator and then as a Principal. Now, I feel very fortunate to be coming back to where it all started for me, early childhood education. There is something pretty special about the preschool years, and I am excited to be working with our youngest learners and their families again.
As the Preschool Team Chairperson, I will also be working closely with many of our families throughout the special education process. If your child has an IEP, I will be the person coordinating your child’s meetings and working alongside you, your child’s teachers, service providers, and the rest of the team to develop and support your child’s plan. I know that the IEP process can sometimes feel like a lot to navigate, especially for families who are new to it. Please know that I am here to answer questions, listen, and help make the process as comfortable and collaborative as possible.
Our teachers have been very busy getting their classrooms ready for your children. They have been organizing, decorating, planning, and putting a lot of thought into creating spaces where children will feel comfortable, welcomed, and excited to learn and play. We cannot wait to open our doors and welcome our preschoolers on Thursday!
One of my goals this year is to keep families connected to everything happening in our preschool program. Each month, I will send home The GPS Preschool Post. Along with important dates and preschool information, I will share early childhood tips for families, helpful community resources, and simple ideas that may be useful as your child grows and learns throughout the year.
Most importantly, I want you to know that I am here for you. Please feel comfortable reaching out with questions, concerns, or even just to share something exciting about your child. I truly believe that our best work happens when schools and families work together.
I look forward to seeing our classrooms filled with little voices, lots of play, new friendships, and all the wonderful learning that comes with preschool.
Here’s to a great year together!
Warmly,
Melissa Wallace
Preschool Coordinator & Team Chairperson
