Principal's Notes
This week has been a beehive of activity at Cole School with the early release on Wednesday, the Variety Shows on Wednesday night, and the district wide band concert on Thursday night! Congratulations to our student performers (especially those that performed two nights in a row!). We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Variety Show volunteers for pulling together two amazing shows and offering our students a safe space to showcase their many talents. Just amazing work all the way around!
Report cards will be available in Aspen today by 3pm. Please take a moment to review your child's progress so far this year and work with them to set goals for the third trimester.
Attendance letters will be in the backpacks of all students that have six or more absences, tardies, or dismissals this trimester. While we can "excuse" absences for medical appointments with notes from the medical office, all absences must reported in student data collection to the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. So, while it is helpful for us to know about medical absences and to mark them as such, they are still reported to DESE.
Please inform the office of any upcoming moves or changes to schools for next school year. This information is helpful in our planning for student placement, class sizes, and budgeting.
The Lost and Found is overflowing! Please take a moment to look over the lost and found items that will be on display in the hallway outside the health room when you come in for conferences. Any unclaimed items will be donated on Monday, April 13th.
Please join us in welcoming several Cole School alum back to Cole School as NHS senior interns. These interns will be working with the following teachers and classes from March 3oth until May 22nd.
The NHS senior interns will begin at Cole School next week.
Samuel Bretsch - Mrs. Austin
Sophie Coco - Ms. Fitzgerald
Jamison Concheri - Mr. Thornton
James Dell'Olio - Mrs. Bretsch
Emma Johnson - Mrs. Deptula
Alaina Peebles - Mr. Menice
Heidi Warren - Mrs. Fraser

Time is flying! It's time to begin our placement process for the 2026-2027 school year! The Parent Input Survey for Placement will be shared via email on Thursday, April 2nd and is due by Monday, April 27th (no exceptions). We are looking to gather all pertinent information in order to create the most balanced classrooms possible.
The digital form will be reviewed as part of the placement process. The information will be kept confidential and released only to pertinent staff. You are welcome to include any information you feel is important for us as we build each class, however, we will NOT take into consideration specific teacher requests and we will NOT guarantee that we will be able to separate certain students or place certain students together. Although parents have shared concerns with other staff, only concerns submitted on this form will be considered as final input. The goal is to create the most balanced classrooms for learning for all students.
The placement process is:
· The current teacher starts the class lists without a specific teacher’s name attached. The goal is to create a balanced classroom and not to customize a class to fit a particular teacher.
· Teachers review their current list to determine the needs of the current students. They consider combinations of students that have not been productive.
· Grade levels meet to make tentative class lists for the next year. The factors that guide this stage are student strengths, gender, class size, number of sections for each grade and the pertinent information from the parent input form.
· The lists are reviewed by staff members and by administration to verify that the classes are balanced and appropriate.
· The final step is for the principal to assign specific teachers to each class.
· Fifth graders will receive their teacher assignments from Norwell Middle School.
· The principal reserves the right to make any changes necessary to ensure well-balanced classes.
The teaching staff planned for 2026-2027 year is shared below. There are a few changes this year due to the number of sections at each grade level. As always, there may be additional changes, but this is the plan as of today.
Magnificent Meerkats
Check out this small but mighty group of Magnificent Meerkats! These students not only show expected behaviors consistently each week, but they also show persistence, courage, and growing confidence! We are so proud of this week's Magnificent Meerkats!
Counselor's Corner
This week, I met with kindergarten and 4th graders for lessons on hygiene (K) and self-awareness (4th). Kinder friends heard excerpts from "Hygiene, You Stink!" by Julia Cook, and we practiced how to brush teeth and wash hands the right way. 4th graders did some self-reflection by writing "I Am" poems, and then several of our poets shared their work. In other news, NTSS lunch, snack, and skill-building groups started with me this week. I am enjoying getting all caught up with everyone! Reach out if you need me- anne.walsh@norwellschools.org
Specialists' Scoop
PE Happenings
With giggles of excitement, grades K-2 used their imagination and their upper body strength to work together on numerous challenges with a large colorful parachute. Grades 3-5 used their self control, strategies, cooperation and teamwork while playing games of Capture the Bunnies.

Cole School PTO News
The Variety Show was a HUGE success thanks to our incredible volunteers — we truly can’t thank them enough! But the fun doesn’t stop there. April 1st is right around the corner (no joke!), and PTO is looking for extra hands to help with our upcoming events and activities.
Please consider volunteering and being part of the fun — we’d love your help!
1. Book Fair
Our Book Fair is coming up fast (April 7, 8, and 9 at Cole School), and we could use your help during store hours. Volunteers will assist with tidying books, helping at the register, and light clean-up.
Please consider signing up for a shift and supporting the Buttonwoods Book Fair — we’d love your help!

2. Square 1 Art Reminder
Square 1 Art order forms recently went home and are due April 10. These make fantastic grandparent gifts, and the student artwork is always adorable! Best of all, a portion of every sale comes directly back to Cole PTO to support our students and community — last year this fundraiser raised $5,300.
Be sure to submit your order by April 10!

3. 5th Grade Celebration – Volunteers Needed!
The 5th Grade Celebration is one of Cole School’s most cherished traditions, held the Thursday before the last week of school to send our 5th graders off to middle school in style. Parents of students in Kindergarten through 4th grade are especially encouraged to help plan and support this special event alongside experienced leaders. This is a great way to get involved and help create a memorable experience for our graduating class.
Sign up to volunteer and be part of this wonderful Cole School tradition!
