Celebrating Academic Excellence, Continuous Improvement,
and Opportunity in District 67
October 30, 2026
Dear District 67 Families, Staff, and Community,
Today, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the 2026 Illinois School Report Card, reflecting student learning and school performance during the 2025–2026 school year.
We are proud to share results that reflect the hard work of our students, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the strong partnership we share with families and our community.
All District 67 Schools Earn Exemplary Status
All five District 67 schools, Cherokee, Everett, Sheridan, Deer Path Middle School East, and Deer Path Middle School West, earned Exemplary status, the highest designation awarded by ISBE.
This year, Illinois introduced a new accountability framework that considers multiple measures of school performance, including academic achievement, growth, and student outcomes. Although the methodology has changed, Exemplary remains the state's highest recognition.
District 67 2026 Report Card Highlights
Academic Excellence and Continuous Improvement
District 67 students continue to significantly outperform statewide averages in all three core academic areas.
These percentages represent students who met or exceeded Illinois state standards.
District 67 continues to honor the Board of Education's priority of achieving academic performance at or above the 95th percentile statewide. These results reflect the dedication of our teachers, instructional leaders, and students. We remain committed not only to maintaining academic excellence but also to ensuring continued growth and success for all learners.
Building Strong Foundations in Mathematics
While math proficiency declined slightly, District 67 maintained its 98th percentile statewide mathematics ranking. We continue to address the evolving instructional needs for our math learners through the action steps in our school improvement plans.
In 2023, 19% of our 8th graders in Algebra 1 classes did not meet expectations on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) in math, indicating that their math placement did not align with their performance.
With this in mind, District 67 refined its Algebra 1 placement criteria to ensure students are placed appropriately and have the foundational knowledge and skills needed to succeed as they progress in their mathematics journey.
This approach has been successful. In 2026, the number of 8th graders in our Algebra 1 classes who did not meet expectations on the IAR is down to 2%.
Our priority is not simply accelerating students into advanced coursework, but ensuring they are appropriately challenged and prepared for long-term success. We will continue evaluating placement practices and student outcomes to strengthen mathematics learning and high school readiness.
Meaningful Progress for Students with IEPs
We are encouraged by the academic performance of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). District 67 established an ambitious three-year goal for at least 50% of students with IEPs to meet or exceed proficiency standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
We are proud to share that, for the first time, we have met and exceeded our three-year ELA goal. While our students continue to outperform statewide averages in both subjects, mathematics remains an important area of focus for continued growth.
Attendance
Regular attendance provides the foundation for consistent learning, meaningful relationships, and student success.
District 67 continues to demonstrate strong attendance:
95.3% districtwide attendance rate is up from 94.9% in 2025
7.4% chronic absenteeism is down from 7.9% in 2025 and significantly below the statewide rate of 23.5%
We appreciate our families' partnership in prioritizing regular attendance and helping students stay connected to school.
Celebrating Success, Committed to Continuous Improvement
These results give us much to celebrate. They also reinforce our responsibility to use what we learn to make our schools even stronger. We invite you to review our school improvement plans to learn more:
We will continue to build on our success, strengthen instruction, and focus on the individual needs of every learner.
Our sincere thanks to our District 67 students, faculty, staff, families, Board of Education, and community partners. These achievements reflect more than test scores. They are a testament to our community's shared commitment to our students, a belief in their potential, and the collective effort to help every child grow, succeed, and thrive.
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
Superintendent, Districts 67 and 115
