A NOTE FROM DR. COFFMAN A NOTE FROM DR. COFFMAN

Many of the students took home boxes of World's Finest Chocolate! We appreciate your support of our PTO. Our PTO is amazing and goes above and beyond for both our students and staff. The PTO provides our students shirts for field trips, pays for all of our student's travel and field trips, purchases meals and goodies for our staff throughout the year, and always goes above and beyond when asked. If you would like to volunteer or sign up to support our PTO please contact Kassandra Martinez.

  • Please make sure your child is bringing a water bottle to school everyday.
  • Please try to schedule your child's appointments on Mondays so that they do not miss valuable instruction time. We begin the day promptly after breakfast around 7:50-8:00 and we do not finish instruction time until 4:00 which is right before dinner.
  • Scholastic Book orders are due on September 28th.
  • Have a great weekend!

Math/Science:

· We are working on Subtracting 3 digit numbers with regrouping

· In Science we are showing what we know about changes in heat and how they can change an objects state of matter.

Reminders:

· Math fact is on Friday

· Study math fact cards for times 0,1,2 every night

· Bring a water bottle with ONLY WATER every day.

· Please make sure that your child is here all day. When they leave early they are missing lessons and are going to get behind in class.

4TH GRADE

In RLA we have been working on daily STAAR related questions and diving deeper into author's purpose. In writing we have been working on properly responding to short answer questions to ensure we are answering the entire question, writing proper and complete sentences, and proving our answers with text evidence/details. In Social Studies we are learning more about the beginning of Texas and early Indian settlers.

I wanted to remind you all that the level of rigor and expectations in class rises in fourth grade from than from previous years. I give constant reminders and model my expectations consistently every day. It is their job to take what is taught and apply it to their work!

Reminders...

  1. Study spelling words every night. Tests are on THURSDAY!
  2. Read, read, read every night. Come to school ready to take AR tests.
  3. Please ask your child if they have makeup work to complete from being absent.
  4. Parent Conferences are on October 11th. Please mark this in your calendar.
  5. Homecoming is next week!! Yay!

What a busy week we have had! In Math we are working hard on rounding and estimating. We are also adding and subtracting decimals and translating that into monetary value. We are concentrating on word problems and making sure we are paying attention to all the steps and that we are answering everything that is being asked.

In Science we are continuing to discuss matter and physical properties. We will be concentrating on the differences in mixtures and solutions and what substances are.

5th grade science is concentrating on mixtures and solutions as well. We are continuing to work with properties of matter. Please have your children observe and discuss mixtures and solutions with you.

5TH GRADE

Mrs. Rasco's Readers

In ELAR, we are continuing our unit on Author's Purpose and Craft. We have been analyzing and discussing why author's make the choices they do. We are also continuing to work on our writing and our spelling words.

In Social Studies, we are starting a new unit over the Thirteen Colonies and the events leading up to the US declaring independence from Britain. This has been great, and the students really seem to be enjoying it.

A few Reminders:

  • Please send students with water bottles every day. We really don't want them drinking from the fountains because of germs, and it takes away from class time.
  • If your student is running for Mayor, we NEED their posters ASAP so we can put them in the hallways.
  • Spelling Tests are every Thursday. New words will be sent home every Thursday. Please practice with your child.

Fifth Grade Chaps – Go LCU!!

  • We are wrapping up our Pre-Algebra Unit. I had a lot of students that enjoyed it and did very well. Yay! 😊
  • Next, we will be working on financial literacy. We will be learning about the different taxes, gross income, net income, and budgets.
  • Please have your child keep on practicing multiplication math facts. We have a quiz every Tuesday and every Friday for whoever did not pass on Monday.

Thank you for your support. Stacy Gamez

  • Please have your child read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night. We want them to be readers and leaders, so please have them read every night!
  • Parent Conferences are on October 11th, please put that in your calendar and I will Dojo times at a later date.

Thank you!
