From the Principal's Desk From the Principal's Desk

Dear SHS Families,

As August comes to a close, and we enter into our three-day weekend, I can feel the school year starting to take stride. Schedules are starting to feel more familiar, routines are beginning to set in, and academic goals for this first stretch of the year are beginning to present themselves. This week, students took their beginning-of-the-year STARS assessments to help us understand each student's needs for the start of the year. At Back to School Night last week, I discussed with parents about SHS raising its benchmarks above what is auto-populated by our assessment providers. Therefore, if your student took a STARS assessment, you will see a new category, different from previous years. This is the “SHS Benchmark” which is a proficiency that we at SHS are hoping to help all students achieve. If you are struggling to understand these scores when released to you, please reach out to your student’s teacher.

As a part of an initiative to improve the school’s greater information dissemination, a school report will be published at the end of each month and made available to all members of the parish and school. Hard copies of the report will be available for pickup after the weekend Masses at the end of each month or anytime by request in the school office. There is also a copy of the report attached to this newsletter.

Next week, we will have our first PTO meeting of the year beginning at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd. I encourage all parents to attend to learn more about all the wonderful things our PTO does to enrich the school experience for students and staff and get involved. It is sure to be a great year and you won’t want to miss out.

Next Friday, Sep. 6th, will be the school’s 1st Service Wear Day. Students who bring in a donation of any size may wear their SHS service wear shirts with jeans or uniform bottoms. If you ordered a Service Wear t-shirt, they will be going home with students on Monday. This month, donations go to Children’s Mercy in memory of Cole Hayden.

A reminder. If you have not undergone the VIRTUS training, there is a training session here at SHS on Saturday, Sept 28th, from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. This training is required for all parents who wish to volunteer in the school, chaperone field trips or attend classroom celebrations like Halloween and Christmas parties. Please see the attached information to learn more.

With Faith & Hope,

Patrick (P.J.) Greer
