BCOE Program Update
The remarkable Butte County Office of Education California Mini-Corps program recently completed its 2023 Summer Institute. This four-day event is a crucial professional development opportunity for college-age tutors preparing to make a difference in the upcoming school year. The program's focus on mentoring and tutoring migrant K-12 students not only benefits those students but also provides the tutors with invaluable hands-on experience in the classroom.
This year's theme of the institute, "CA Mini-Corps, Developing Future Multicultural Leaders," perfectly represents what the program strives to achieve. Empowering and motivating college-age tutors, who have taken a bold step toward pursuing a career in teaching and education. Mary Sakuma shared in her remarks at the institutes gala, "what we do as educators matters. What these tutors are doing now, preparing to enter the educational field, is incredibly important. Representation matters, and we are fortunate to live in a state that celebrates and encourages multiculturalism, multilingualism, and diversity. We need to bring more bilingual and multicultural leaders into the classrooms."
The work of BCOE California Mini-Corps staff is critical to creating a better future for all students. Widely recognized throughout the state, the California Mini-Corps program is a beacon of excellence in preparing multicultural and bilingual educators, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in diverse educational settings.
