KMS Principals' Advisories
Hispanic Heritage Month Begins September 15, 2026
From September 15 through October 15, KMS will proudly celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Throughout the month, students will learn about and celebrate Hispanic culture through classroom activities across subject areas—from exploring the important contributions of Hispanic and Latino individuals in ELA to creative projects in art and more.
We’ll also add some friendly competition with daily Hispanic Heritage Month homeroom trivia, giving students another fun way to learn about Hispanic history, culture, and contributions.
Hispanic Heritage Month spans parts of September and October to recognize the independence celebrations of several Latin American nations.
We’re looking forward to a month of learning, celebrating, and recognizing the many contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans!
Math and Reading Benchmarks Next Week
Next week, all KMS students will complete a Mathematics and Reading benchmark exam Students will take benchmark exams again in January and May of 2027. Please ensure your child brings their KCSD issued Chromebook to school fully charged with their headphones.
Benchmark exams are highly important for several reasons.
- They are informative for teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses among students based on learning standards.
- They provide evidence of growth.
- KMS course placement is a data driven process, and benchmark scores help us determine which students are best suited for the demands of honors courses.
- Students in Algebra & Geometry will benchmark in ALEKS, not iReady.
We remind students that there is no need to stress over their performance. The expectation is simple - just do your best.

Wayfinder - New for 2026-2027
Beginning this school year, Kennett Consolidated School District will implement Wayfinder, our K–8 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program. Wayfinder will provide all students with age-appropriate instruction focused on six core skills: Self-Awareness, Collaboration, Empathy, Adaptability, Agency, and Purpose. These skills will help students build positive relationships, navigate challenges, and develop the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond. A family letter will be shared at the beginning of each Chapter 1 or Unit to provide an overview of the skills and concepts students will be learning and offer information that can help families reinforce learning at home.
Kennett Chromebook Protection Plan for $50
In 2026, technology plays an important role in your child's learning. Protect your student's district issued learning device with our comprehensive Kennett Chromebook Protection Plan (KCCP), designed to shield families from unexpected repair costs. Our affordable coverage ensures that accidental damage, drops, spills, and screen cracks won't interrupt your child's education or create financial stress. This $50 plan provides 100% coverage for repairs or replacement of the Chromebook that would otherwise be the responsibility of the student and/or parent/legal guardian.
Drop Off & Pickup Information
Bus information: Is available in Skyward.
Parent Drop off/Pick Up: Students should not be dropped off at KMS before 7:20 AM. We average around 200 cars (give or take) each morning for drop off, so efficiency is key. Click here for our traffic patterns. Students who play sports or are in band may drop off at a separate location to ease some of the traffic in our regular drop off lane.
For any questions, please call KMS at (610) 268-5800.
