Dear Ashland High School Families,

What an incredible time to be a Grizzly!

Homecoming Week has brought an amazing sense of energy, joy, and connection to our campus. From last Wednesday's Homecoming Parade to the creativity, laughter, and school spirit displayed throughout Spirit Week, our students and staff have reminded us of what makes Ashland High School such a special place.

Today, we continued the celebration with our Homecoming Assembly, bringing our school together to celebrate our students, our traditions, and our shared Grizzly Pride!

Tonight, we invite all our families and community members to join us for our Homecoming football game! Whether you're cheering from the stands, reconnecting with friends, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, we encourage you to come out, mingle, and celebrate with us. These moments are about so much more than a football game. They are opportunities to strengthen relationships, create memories, and celebrate the community we are building together.

Another exciting highlight of our Homecoming celebration will be our dance, "Miami Nights!" We look forward to seeing our students enjoy an evening filled with music, friendship, and unforgettable memories.

As we celebrate, I also want to encourage our families to take a few moments to talk with their students about making good choices, looking out for one another, and embracing the importance of healthy, safe, and responsible fun. Our shared commitment to student well-being helps ensure that these celebrations remain positive and memorable for everyone.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community for bringing so much enthusiasm and heart to our school. Your involvement makes a difference, and it is what keeps our Grizzly community strong.

Let's keep showing up for one another, making great memories, and building the school and community we all want to be part of.

Go Grizzlies! ❤️🐻

Warmly,

Francisco López Atanes, Ph.D

Ashland Monster Dash

Hey, Grizzlies!

Ready to show you AHS spirit at the Ashland Monster Dash? Sign up now for this fun community race on Saturday, October 24th that raises funds to support our AHS students. Register your family to run, walk, or stroll over the finish line, and get creative with the costume contest—the more monstrous, the better!

Past Monster Dash funds have helped bring amazing resources to AHS, including chef coats for the culinary program, video production equipment, classroom books, music coaches, and more. When you participate, you're directly supporting hands-on learning for our AHS community!

Calling all parent and student volunteers — your help is also needed to make race day magical. Sign up to volunteer and be part of the action. Remember, students can count their volunteer time as Community Service Hours that are required for graduation.

If you need support with registration costs, our front office has information about scholarships. No Grizzly should miss out!

Let's rally together and show what AHS pride looks like at the Monster Dash!

See Counseling Page for more information about Volunteering.

Fiber Arts Donations Accepted

The materials needed for Fiber Arts classes are largely acquired through donations. Some projects involve hand sewing while others are completed on a sewing machine. Still others utilize knitting or crocheting skills. We will gladly accept supplies related to any of these activities. Below are some of the materials we could use in our classes.

  • Felt of all colors
  • Embroidery thread
  • 100% cotton fabric with no stretch (the smallest size we can use is 6” by 6”)
  • 6” – 9” zippers of any color
  • Flannel with no stretch (2 ¾ yard to 3-yard pieces to accommodate the variety of students’ heights and sizes.)
  • ¾” elastic
  • Thread of all colors
  • Worsted weight yard (A beanie uses about 150-200 yds of yarn)
  • Crochet hooks and knitting needles (with a preference for 16” circular needles)
  • Ripstop nylon
  • 1” webbing & Fastex buckles

Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated by both the students and myself. Thank you for considering donating to our program!

Ashland School District qualifies as a USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) site; this means all students in the Ashland School District have access to a free breakfast and lunch. AHS still wants to know which of our students would traditionally qualify for free and reduced lunch. We use this information to make sure we can direct resources to the students that need it most. The information is completely confidential and for administrative use only. Students who qualify are eligible for reduced fees for school events like our dances as well as reduced fees for AP Tests. Completed forms should be turned into the Main Office to the attention of the Bookkeeper.

Student Health Student Health

Dear Ashland School District Families,

Welcome to a new school year! Our goal is to help every student stay healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Thank you for partnering with us by following these health guidelines and keeping us informed of any significant changes in your child's health.

When Should My Child Stay Home?

Please keep your child home if they have any of the following:

  • Fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. Students may return after they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours. Students may return after being symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
  • A new or unexplained rash, especially if accompanied by fever.
  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, or a persistent cough that prevents participation in school.
  • Colored drainage from the eyes or symptoms of a contagious eye infection.
  • Stiff neck with fever, unusual drowsiness, significant behavior changes, or jaundice.
  • Skin sores or lesions that are draining or cannot be covered.
  • Symptoms of illness that prevent your child from participating comfortably in school.

If your child becomes ill while at school, a parent or emergency contact will be notified to pick them up.

Major Injuries

If your child experiences a significant injury, such as a concussion, broken bone, dislocation, or other injury affecting mobility or participation at school, please notify the nurse or school before they return.

Please provide:

  • A healthcare provider's note describing activity restrictions.
  • Information regarding mobility equipment (crutches, wheelchair, brace, etc.).
  • Instructions for returning to physical education, recess, athletics, or other activities.
  • Any accommodations your child may need during the school day.

Following Surgery

If your child has surgery, please contact the nurse or school before they return to school so we can support a safe transition.

Please provide:

  • A healthcare provider's clearance to return to school.
  • Any temporary activity restrictions and their expected duration.
  • Medication orders if medication is needed during school hours.

Medications at School

If your child requires medication during the school day, please contact the school before the first day the medication is needed. Medications must be provided according to Ashland School District policy with the appropriate authorization forms.

Keep the School Nurse Informed

Please notify the school nurse if your child has:

  • A new medical diagnosis.
  • Asthma, diabetes, seizures, severe allergies, or another chronic health condition.
  • Changes to medications or emergency care plans.
  • A hospitalization, surgery, or significant injury.
  • Any health concern that may affect learning or participation at school.

Working together helps us provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students. If you have questions or concerns about your child's health needs, please contact your school.

Thank you for your partnership, and I wish you and your family a healthy and successful school year!

Sincerely,

Erin Hope, RN District Nurse Ashland School District
