❤️🫀 Heart Healthy 🫀🩷

February may be short, but it's packed with meaningful learning, creative approaches, and lots to celebrate across our school community. As we move through the heart of winter, our classrooms are growing academically and socially as teachers challenge and support them daily. We're feeling the love this month with our school-wide American Heart Association event, and we hope all families have received the information sent home by our PE teacher, Mr. Jason Grace. Thank you for your continued partnership as we share important updates, upcoming events, and highlights from our students!

Weather Preparedness Reminder

As colder winter weather continues, please remember to send your child to school dressed appropriately for outdoor temperatures, including warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots as needed. We also appreciate your support in helping limit the spread of illness. If your child has a fever or is showing other contagious symptoms, please keep him or her home to rest and recover. Your cooperation helps keep our school community healthy and safe for everyone.

Portrait of a Cedar: Creative

This month, we're excited to focus on the character trait of being "Creative." Our students are encouraged to demonstrate originality and imagination by exploring new ways of thinking about problems, translating ideas into viable solutions, and utilizing multi-dimensional resources across their learning experiences. From classroom discussions to hands-on projects, we are proud to see our students thinking creatively and applying these skills in meaningful ways each day.

Connect

We encourage you to stay connected with your child's classroom through SeeSaw. If you encounter any difficulties reaching your child's teacher, please don't hesitate to contact the Northwest Office. Our Northwest team is committed to fostering community connections and will keep you informed about all the exciting events happening at school.

With Unity and Northwest Pride,

NW Administration

❤️ Participating in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge helps our students learn lifelong habits that support heart health while also giving back to a meaningful cause. Through fun, age-appropriate activities, students learn the importance of staying active, making healthy choices, and understanding how their hearts work.

❤️ By taking part, families help support the American Heart Association’s mission to fight heart disease and stroke, which are conditions that impact so many children and adults. Funds raised go toward life-saving research, education, and community programs that promote healthier futures for all.

❤️ Most importantly, the Kids Heart Challenge emphasizes kindness, teamwork, and helping others, empowering students to see that even small actions can make a big difference. Whether families choose to donate, share the message, or simply encourage healthy habits at home, every level of participation helps build a stronger, healthier school community.

As part of our PBIS expectations, we encourage students to be safe, respectful, and responsible both at school and online. Even at the elementary level, children may encounter social media, videos, and/or online games, making digital citizenship an important family conversation.

Families can support positive online behavior by:

  • 💻 Being Safe: Use privacy settings, parental controls, and remind children not to share personal information.

  • 💬 Being Respectful: Talk about using kind words online and treating others the way they want to be treated.

  • ⏰ Being Responsible: Set clear screen-time limits and keep devices in shared family spaces.

  • 🗣️ Speaking Up: Encourage children to tell a trusted adult if something online makes them feel uncomfortable or unsure.

When students practice expectations online, they build lifelong habits that support learning, safety, and positive relationships.

Your support is always appreciated in helping us to maintain accurate information regarding address changes, new telephone numbers, etc.

It is a recommended procedure by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that, in the event of a change of address, confirmation of the new address is required before information can be updated/changed. Confirmation of address may include a utility bill or a copy of the lease. If you are residing with someone else, we will provide you with a Residency Affidavit that will need to be signed and notarized.

Please submit all information regarding address changes to the Northwest Office. Accurate information on your child is vital in the event of an emergency! Office personnel will be happy to assist with any questions you may have at 717-270-6800.
