Bus Safety, a great Maker Faire, and student attendance
Hello, RVS Families!
I hope you all had a great extra-long weekend... for me, the rain coming in was good motivation to jam everything into my garden that I could fit by this afternoon! We are looking forward to the next few weeks with our students - plenty of wonderful trips, at-school celebrations, and time well spent with friends coming up.
On Friday, we had a few fun highlights happening - many families saw our "bus safety drill" going on during arrival, and thanks to the great planning and prep by our awesome bus driver Mr. Don Singer, we were able to get all students on the bus to talk about bus safety and emergencies - good preparation for all of our upcoming field trips! We also had an awesome time with our current 4th grade students at the Main Street Middle School Maker Faire: we visited a number of games, contraptions and exhibits created by 7th and 8th grade students, and everyone is looking forward to a chance to get to visit the Maker Space in the upcoming months!
This week, we look forward to our first end-of-the-year celebration happening for students on Forest Friday. Our neighbors who graciously lend us their forest throughout the year are hosting us for a cookout lunch, and treating us to a fiddle performance! We look forward to enjoying this time together.
As the end of the year approaches, please keep in mind that attendance remains important to us in making sure every student is included in all activities, able to complete their spring assessments, and on time to leave for field trips. If you know your student has an upcoming absence, please let us know ahead of time if possible. Please also be sure to review the schedule of events coming up as there will be days when early pickup may not be possible if we are off campus.
Finally, we are happy to share that we will be gathering as a community on Wednesday, June 19th at 5PM to see all of our students graduate from Roxbury Village School. We will be ready to celebrate our current kiddos, revisit the long and storied past of RVS through community photos, and to honor some of our amazing volunteers. We are planning on some student musical performances directed by our own Mr. Owens, and of course, we'll celebrate with some snacks and cake. Please put us on your calendar, and watch for a formal invite coming home this week!
Have a great week ahead,
Shannon
RVS Important to Remember:
- Thank you for returning volunteer forms for upcoming field trips! Shannon will reach out with confirmations this week via email if you have signed up for a trip.
- The Dental Van will make its final visit of the year on Thursday, June 6th. If your child is not yet signed up and you would like them to be, please reach out to Nurse Dot at dorothymartin@mpsvt.org.
- The last day of Bridges will be Friday, June 14th. Please be sure to communicate your after-school transportation plans with Tina for June 17th - 20th if your child usually attends. Please note that June 20th will be a half day, ending at noon.
End of the Year Events: What's coming up?
We have a very busy end of the year planned, with local events and plenty of fun field trips! Please note departure times for these trips to ensure that your child arrives in time to go.
- Friday, May 31st, we have a Forest Friday lunch celebration at the D'Amico's house, featuring a BBQ lunch and bagpipe/fiddle players.
- Wednesday, June 5th, we will travel to UES to join classes in field day. This is a full day event, departing RVS at 8:00 AM.
- Tuesday, June 11th, we will take a ride on the Amtrak "Vermonter" from Montpelier to Randolph, touring both Northfield and Roxbury on the rails! Our bus will meet us in Randolph, where we are planning to have a picnic lunch after the ride. Students should be back at RVS by 12:30.
- Wednesday, June 12th is our RVS field day - close to a full day event! Rain date is 6/17.
- Thursday, June 13th will be a multi-layered field trip: we are all headed to Shelburne. Grades 3-4 will hop off at the Shelburne Museum. Grades K-2 will continue over to Shelburne Farms. This is a full-day field trip. We will be leaving for this trip by 8:15 AM.
- Friday, June 14th we will have a full-day trip to the Montshire Museum (we know, very close to our other trip - unfortunately, unavoidable!). We will be leaving for this trip by 8:30 AM.
- Friday, June 14th is also the Bridges Play, "A Very Silly Circus" at 5:00 here at RVS!
- Wednesday, June 19th will be our RVS Graduation Event from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. ALL students will be "graduating" this year, so all families are encouraged to attend! Watch for an official invitation heading home this week.
- Wednesday, June 19th is the last day of school for kindergarten students.
- Thursday, June 20th is a half day, and grades 1-4 will be at UES. All students will "step up" to their new classes, and fourth graders will go to MSMS after the graduation parade. We will return to RVS for a 12:00 dismissal. This is the last day of school for grades 1-4. Please note that fourth graders will return on the middle school bus, so they will arrive back at RVS just before 1:00.
We will continue to update this list as other events are added. We do realize that the end of the year is a busy time for families: if there is anything we can answer questions about, don't hesitate to reach out to shannonm@mpsvt.org.
