📱💙 October 19-23 is Digital Citizenship Week!
This week, we’re celebrating the power of being safe, smart, and kind online — at every age! From our youngest learners exploring educational apps to our middle schoolers connecting on social platforms, it’s the perfect time for families to talk about digital footprints, privacy, and online responsibility.
Here are 5 steps families can take together:
1️⃣ Talk Early & Often: Discuss what’s appropriate to share (and what’s not).
2️⃣ Check Privacy Settings: Review app permissions and screen time together.
3️⃣ Be Kind Online: Remind kids that kindness counts just as much on screens as it does in person.
4️⃣ Think Before You Post: What you share today can shape your digital future.
5️⃣ Stay Curious: Encourage kids to ask before clicking links or downloading new apps.
🔒 Parent Tip: Stay alert to online challenges, scams, and messaging apps that allow hidden activity. Visit www.commonsense.org/families for trusted family guides and age-specific digital safety tips.
Together, we can raise responsible digital citizens who use technology to learn, create, and connect safely! 💻✨
McClure students are invited to complete the McClure Library Digital Citizenship Challenge on Typing Club during quarter 2 to deepen their understanding. Look for a handout in Monday folders, or print one here, to participate.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month
October is recognized worldwide as Dyslexia Awareness Month, a time to come together to raise awareness, share resources, and tell stories about dyslexia successes. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, decoding abilities, and poor spelling.
Did you know:
- 1 in 5 people are Dyslexic~that’s 20% of our population. It is the most common of all neurocognitive disorders.
- Dyslexia ranges from mild to severe and those with dyslexia use about 5 times more energy to complete mental tasks.
- Dyslexia is hereditary. Children have a 50% chance of having dyslexia if one parent has it.
- Most dyslexics are creative thinkers & have an average, above-average, or highly gifted IQ.
- Over 50% of NASA employees are Dyslexic. This population is deliberately sought after because they have superb problem-solving skills and excellent 3D/spatial awareness.
- Around 40% of people with dyslexia also have ADHD.
MISD School Safety
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty, and staff.
Please this link to view the Standard Response Protocol parent information.
