From Stacy Baugues:

I am excited to share that we are now accepting applications for the 61st Annual Queen of Hearts!

I am hoping you can help me spread the word! I’ve attached an overview with the timeline and responsibilities for this program. If you have any students that would be strong nominees for this campaign, please share the application link or send them my way!

Accepting Applications: September 4th 2024 – December 31st, 2024

Eligibility: Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors

Application Link: https://forms.office.com/r/Wi9SZkdvdz

What is Queen of Hearts?

Each year the American Heart Association’s Queen of Hearts campaign brings together a group of young leaders to make an impact on women’s heart health in the Tri-Cities. During this 8-week campaign, young people who want to make a difference are empowered with the training and resources to take action for their own heart health and the hearts of those around them.

We are thrilled to share that Aniston Barnette, from Tennessee High School was the American Heart Association’s 2024 National Impact Winner! We are excited to build on this incredible momentum by identifying high school students with a passion for making a difference to join us for the 2025 Queen of Hearts Campaign.

I’m happy to answer any questions or connect on a call!

With heart,

Stacy

She is the very thing he’s spent his whole life hunting.
He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.

Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites.

The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished in order to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.

Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can in order to stay alive and out of trouble. Easier said than done.

When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers—the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is—completely Ordinary.

Pioneer Cross Country (XC) Pioneer Cross Country (XC)

BRISTOL – Winning league titles is becoming somewhat of a habit for the David Crockett girls team.

The Lady Pioneers won a fourth-straight league title on Tuesday — the last two Three Rivers and the previous two in the Big 5.

Senior Maggie Bellamy was the day’s only repeat winner, rolling through to the individual title in 19:41.2 and overcoming an early deficit.

“Winning was definitely the goal going in because I did it last year,” Bellamy said. “I also wanted to win it combined, which is what I did.

“Our goal as a team going in was to win it again because we’d won the conference every year since I’ve been at Crockett and we wanted that four-peat.”

Crockett put all of its five scorers in the top 13 and finished with 38 points to win a surprisingly close race over Elizabethton (44).

Elizabethton freshman Arvella Nave took the pace out hard along the rolling- double-loop course, but Bellamy made her pay on the back half and ended up winning the race rather convincingly by 24 seconds (20:05.4).

“I had to be patient and I had to tell myself that every race isn’t going to be perfect right away,” Bellamy said. “At (the) Trailblazer (Invitational), I was pretty sick and running a fever. I already knew going into today that I felt better and I was able to run where I can run.”

Kiley Moore (seventh, 22:20.2), Olivia Ogle (ninth, 22:48.3), Ivy Newlon (12th, 23:42.1) and Savannah Piazza (13th, 23:50.2) rounded out the scoring for Crockett.

“Kiley has been nursing a hamstring injury since track and this wasn’t a (personal-best) for her, but it was season-best,” Crockett coach Mark Jennings said. “Ivy Newlon really redeemed herself because she got knocked out of the team that went to state last year. She was hungry and didn’t want that to happen again. Maggie, Kiley and Ivy really carried us today.”

The Lady Pioneers will look to win a second-straight regional title on Monday and qualify again for the state. It’s also special for Jennings, who is in his final year at the helm for Crockett.

“Winning four in a row won’t really buy you a cup of coffee anywhere, but it does look good hanging on the wall,” Jennings said. “It means a lot to go out a winner and I’m really proud of the girls for giving it their all.”
