Dear KRS Families,

Happy Friday! It was a wonderful week at KRS! On Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 7 PM is our Back-to-School Night. The night is designed for parents/guardians to learn about school programs, grade level expectations, and routines. We will begin the night in the multi-purpose room for some speakers and then move to the classrooms for the teacher presentations. Two identical sessions will be offered for those of you with more than one child at KRS. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday! Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Koop

ST Math Program for Students in Grades K-3

ST Math is a visual math program that builds a deep conceptual understanding of math through rigorous learning and creative problem solving. ST Math released a parent guide for remote learning. The parent guide includes a brief introduction to ST Math, the learning cycle, and questions to ask to assist learners. It even shows the parents how to use the animation tool.

Bus Drills

We are required to conduct 2 bus drills during the school year. The first KRS bus drill will be in the month of September. The drill will include the review of bus rules, learning to use bus seatbelts, and the students exiting through the emergency exit in the back of the bus.

News from Reading Specialist Mrs. Sims

Welcome Back students and families and a special welcome to all new families here to KRS!! My name is Mrs. Sims and I am the Kings Road School Reading Specialist. September is a time when we are getting to know the students and are establishing baselines in both ELA and Math. This information helps to differentiate our lessons to meet the needs of all learners. I am helping the teachers gather preliminary baselines to determine eligibility for support services offered through our Basic Skills Intervention program. I am excited to be back and I look forward to working with the KRS students this year!

News from Art Teacher Mr. Thompson

I am so very excited to begin our school year with having classes back in the art room! Having use of our art studio from day one will be a gigantic step forward in our students' art careers. When the weather participates we will use our outside space this year to draw en plein air. The projects that we will be making will include but are not limited to, the works of famous artists, cultural history, and books. Students should come in ready to be creative! Almost everything that we will be using this school year is washable. Some of the mediums we will be using in the next few months will be oil pastels, clay, water color paint, tempra paint, markers, art stix, and coloring pencils. This year students artwork will be displayed around KRS and on our instagram page ARTWITH_MRT. Currently, you can see past works of art as well as videos from our district-wide art show! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me via email thompsong@madisonnjps.org.

Cougar Logo Design

We are so happy to announce the winner of our Cougar logo design contest! As you know we are working with a muralist to create a new image for the front of our school. Soon muralist Ms. Olmstead will share her design of the mural for us to paint in art class and at recess time. Last year, all classes from kindergarten through fifth grade competed in creating a new school logo. It had to include the following; the name of our school, a cougar and our school colors. After long debate and careful consideration we are incredibly proud to announce Hannah Green as the winner of the Kings Road School logo competition! Thank you everyone for participating. You all did such a great job!
