Hello Woodstock Family!

A big thank you to our community for coming out to the Spring Festival! Friday was the definition of a PNW spring day with the weather bouncing from sun and clouds to rain and even some hail! We appreciate your willingness to pivot with us.

We were all a little bummed to learn the dunk tank and bounce house were not going to make it due to a broken trailer axle, but this community showed that we can adapt and still have a great time. Thank you to Circus Cascadia for setting up a family friendly work shop with tight rope walking, stilts, and other activities in the cafeteria to keep us out of the rain. It was so much fun to watch everyone try something new and daring!

We want to recognize our sponsors and partners that helped make this event a success:

  • Portland Children's Dentistry
  • Trader Joe's
  • One with Heart
  • Portland Ultimate
  • Circus Cascadia

And thank you to the volunteers and community that came out to make this event great!

A few important items for this week:

  • Ms. Rowey and Ms. Candace still need volunteers to help make the Art & Music Showcase shine! It's coming up next week! See below for details.

Woodstock School Garden Receives $2500 SPACE Grant from EMSWCD

The Woodstock School Garden program has received a $2500 grant from the East Multnomah Water Conservation District to go toward the program fee we pay to Grow Portland to have a part-time school garden educator work with Woodstock students in our school garden. Receiving a East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District SPACE Grant is an exciting opportunity for our school community and school garden education program. These grants support hands-on projects that connect students to nature while promoting healthy soil, clean water, native habitat, and environmental stewardship. Funding from EMSWCD helps make outdoor learning experiences possible, giving students the chance to care for and learn about gardening in meaningful, real-world ways. Through programs like SPACE Grants, EMSWCD invests in the next generation of environmental leaders while helping communities build healthier, more resilient neighborhoods.

Help to Care for the Woodstock School Garden and Our School Trees

The Woodstock School Garden and its trees continue to thrive thanks to community support and volunteers. Please consider signing up for a week to water our school garden. Volunteers will be able to take home produce from the garden and any excess can be donated to a local food pantry. Of course, the amount of care that the garden will require during any particular week will also greatly depend on the weather. It could be as often as every couple of days if it is really hot or every 3 days if it is relatively cool.

Additionally, we are looking for people to help with watering trees. We have watering bags that will be placed around the trunks and they will mainly just need a good watering once or twice a month. It may be that the volunteers who care for the trees could be separate or there could be overlap. Let me know if you are interested in that role as well.

Woodstock Park Playground Upgrades - Community Meeting

The Woodstock Neighborhood Association is working with the Portland Parks Foundation (PPF) to figure out potential funding efforts for playground updates at Woodstock Park. This will likely require some level of community funding, with the remainder funded by PPF and Portland Parks. We would like to invite you to attend a community meeting on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 pm at the Woodstock Community Center (5905 SE 43rd Avenue) or via Zoom. We will discuss the overall project, engagement opportunities, potential funding strategies, and how we can rally as a community to support this project.
