BoonsboroMiddle SchoolDecember 2019

From the Principal

So long, 2019! This newsletter is published with just five school days until Winter Break. While we are committed to quality instruction and learning, we wouldn't be Boonsboro Middle School if we didn't make good of the excitement in the building. I hope your child will participate in the student-initiated Holiday Spirit Week (see below). In addition to spreading holiday cheer, each day should teach us a little bit more about the variety of holidays celebrated around this time of year.

Hopefully you were able to attend the concert of one of our performing groups. The orchestra, band, and chorus have put on excellent concerts to demonstrate the skills they have been working on so far this year. Kudos to these students for the extra time and effort they put into being student performers!

It's been a while since I have given a general thank you to the parents and families of BMS, but I continue to be humbled by the support our school receives day to day and throughout the year! Just a few days ago, I sat in a meeting with two parents. They had asked to meet to discuss their son's experience at BMS so far, and yes, some concerns or areas they felt could be improved. From the start of the meeting, they were clear that their intent was not to criticize or place blame, but was instead to be part of a solution. What struck me most, though, was at the end of the conversation, they asked, "What can we do to support you? How can we help?" Those words were music to this principal's ears and are reflective of the parental support that helps makes BMS a school different from the rest.

Thank you for your contribution to our school community. I wish you health, happiness, and peace during the holiday season and am looking forward to the great things that are to come in 2020!

Sincerely,

Lindsey Avara-Reynolds, Principal

Weather Related Closings/Delays

With snow in the forecast, now is a good time to review the notification options for school closings and delays. Please see below for a full list of methods!

Additional thoughts:

  • WCPS uses the phone numbers and e-mails listed in ParentVue to send Connect5 messages. (Double check to make sure it is accurate!)
  • Weather-related early dismissals can be hectic. Please make sure you and your child have a plan in advance for this type of schedule.
