Comal U and Summer Band

DHS is hosting a district wide event, Comal U, from July 28-July 31. This coincides with our band camp. Please see information below about some considerations for that week.

  • Student parking will be on the home side of the stadium. Please arrive early to park and carpool / drop off if needed. Parking in front of the band hall will not be available.
  • Traffic will be very heavy at 8am, which is when our band camp starts. Please plan to arrive early and safely make your way to the practice field. Look both ways before crossing the street! 🙂
  • Color Guard will practice at Danville Middle school in the mornings during Comal U. DHS will provide a bus from DHS to DMS for these students. If color guard students arrive late, they will need to be dropped off at DMS. Color Guard will be bussed back to DHS for lunch and the afternoon block. Instead of 11:30am-12:30pm, Color Guard will have lunch from 12pm-1pm on these days.

Ultimate Drill Book App

It is highly recommended that all students have Ultimate Drill Book (UDB) on their smart phone if they have one. We will use this application to learn our show. Front ensemble students will not need Ultimate Drill Book as they do not perform any drill moves.

Our drill writer has been hard at work this summer. We already have drill for 3/4 of our show, and students will be able to look at drill on the app when it is uploaded this week. We will have try outs for spots in the show for brass and woodwind players the week of July 28th, and we will begin learning the show on August 1st.

Here are directions for signing up for our account (students only).

1. Download UDBapp Pro from the app store.
2. Tap "Sign-up" at the bottom of the screen
3. Enter Ensemble Code - dhsb25g629
4. Enter Ensemble Password - dhsb25g983re
5. Create a new personal account to use with UDBapp

Drumline Gigs

Our battery (snares, basses, tenors, cymbals) has been asked to play at the following events. Please add these events to you calendar if you are in the battery. We will meet at Davenport HS for these performances. We will wear our summer uniforms ordered from TMF - black shorts, grey polos, marching shoes, no show black socks, and band ball cap.

  • July 25 - New Teacher Orientation, 7:15 am call time, performance 8-8:30 am

Opening of Schools Ceremony

Our battery (snares, basses, tenors, cymbals) and Student Leadership Team (minus color guard, only drum majors, captains, and section leaders) have been asked to perform at the Comal ISD Opening of Schools on August 15th. Transportation will be provided from Davenport HS. More information to follow. These leaders will also need to stay after camp for one hour on August 14 for a brief rehearsal of the ceremony.

Summer Heat Precautions

Comal ISD and UIL have a set of guidelines for summer activities to help ensure students are protected from the summer heat. At DHS, we surpass these requirements and do our best to make students comfortable. Here are some things you can do to help make the first day of band camp outside be less of a shock:

  • Drink WATER every day! Start hydrating now!
  • Start fixing your sleep schedule if you have been staying up late and sleeping in late!
  • Get in the habit of eating breakfast each day. Most students who feel bad in the heat are either dehydrated or haven't eaten breakfast.
  • Go outside each day to get used to the heat! Additionally, doing some exercise or activity
  • Start preparing clothes for band camp. White t-shirts for band students help keep you cool during a hot practice.
  • Have a hat and sunglasses!
  • Wear sunscreen when outside.

2026 Spring Trip

Registration for our 2026 Spring Trip to Dallas will open for Upperclassmen and SLT on July 28th, and will open for underclassmen on August 4th. Registration will close on August 11th. There are limited spots on the trip, so please start making plans to register for the trip and pay the deposit before sign up is closed. Chaperones who wish to go on the trip will need to receive approval from Mr. Lehmann before signing up. Here is a link to a sample itinerary for the trip. The cost for the trip will be $504, assuming the student stays in a room of 4. Chaperones who stay in a double room will pay $557 each.
