Learning Beyond South Meadow School: Former EHP students from SMS return.
Two years in the making, former SMS students Lily Bell, Ari Pape, and William Ricarte joined Mr. Driscoll and Mrs. DeDecker in Jaffrey for the unveiling of their 3D rendering of the Jaffrey Meeting House.
The project sparked during a brief recess conversation in 2024. When Jaffrey Historical Society member Mr. Driscoll mentioned that the society was looking for a small replica of the building, Mrs. DeDecker saw a perfect opportunity for her 3D design class. Equipped with historical blueprints and archival documents provided by the society, she pitched the idea to students Lily Bell, Ari Pape, William Ricarte, Trenton Trudell, Sami Pouliot, Mark Dash, and Dylan Anderson, who all jumped at the chance.
The students officially gifted their rendering to Jaffrey Historical Society President Peter Lambert, who was in attendance to accept the creation.
Following the ceremony, Mr. Driscoll led the students on a historical tour of the Jaffrey Meeting House, guiding them all the way up into the historic bell tower. After spending two years studying two-dimensional blueprints, the students were enthralled to finally see the physical architectural features they had meticulously recreated, paying special attention to the areas that had proven to be the most challenging.
The resulting project is a masterclass in true collaboration. To handle the intricate architectural details, the students shared online workplanes and learned a new CAD software program that could handle the fine details of their work. Remarkably, they constructed the entire model—including both the exterior structure and a detailed interior cross-section—using only basic geometric shapes..
Their completed rendering stands as a remarkable feat of perseverance and an accomplishment to be celebrated. It will now be proudly displayed inside the meeting house for all visitors to enjoy.
