Highland Highlights - Feb. 2026
Welcome to the Highland Highlights!
The second semester is well underway, and there have already been so many incredible things happening in our schools. Let's get right into the newsletter!
Flag Education Award
The Highland American Legion recently visited Southridge to present an award to 4th-grader Evie K. in Ms. Biggs's class. Evie won the American Legion Flag Education Test Program in Highland after taking a test and writing a great essay about our nation's flag.
Recipes for Success
Students in Mrs. DeYoung's reading classes at HMS have been reading many biographies of successful people to determine what their ingredients for success are. Now, throughout the semester, they will work on crafting their own recipe for success. You can share your own ingredient for success here, and I'll send it along to their class!
Happy 100th Day of School!
We recently passed the 100th day of school, and there were celebrations across the district. The Kindergarten classes at Warren made fun hats and necklaces and practiced counting to 100. In Johnston's first grade, the students did crafts and challenges based around the number 100, such as seeing how many sit-ups they could do in 100 seconds. The 2nd-grade classes thought about what life would be like when they are 100 years old. Some look forward to playing bingo and eating biscuits and gravy (who doesn't?), while others are afraid of getting wrinkles!
