From the Senior Leadership Team – Term 3, Week 2

It has been fantastic to see all of our learners back at school, brightening up the grounds with their energy and enthusiasm. A number of projects have taken place over the break, with classrooms being renovated and spaces being tidied up. Despite the exceptionally cold weather over the past week, our students have settled straight back into their routines, showing great resilience as they jump into a new term of learning.

A Celebration of Talent: A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Performance Showcase evenings this week! It was wonderful to see so many families, whānau, and community members in the audience supporting our young people. The level of talent on display was truly exceptional, showcasing the hard work, creativity, and dedication of both our learners and the staff who guided them. We could not be prouder of their performances.

Crucial Road Safety Reminder: As we navigate these busier winter months, we kindly ask all parents and caregivers to have a conversation with your children about road safety. We have unfortunately noticed a number of near misses recently around local roads. A major contributing factor has been learners using their mobile phones while walking—focusing on screens rather than looking where they are going, particularly when crossing roads. Please remind your children to put their devices away, keep their heads up, and stay aware of their surroundings when walking to and from school. Safety must always come first.

Looking Ahead:

Year 8 - PYP Exhibition: This term marks a major milestone for our Year 8 learners as they begin their Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition. This collaborative inquiry process is a highlight of their time at TNIS, but it can also bring a higher level of pressure than usual as students dive deep into their chosen topics. Both our teaching staff and the school leadership team are well-prepared to guide them through every step of this journey. We encourage parents to offer steady support and encouragement at home as well, ensuring our Year 8s feel supported, balanced, and confident as they take ownership of their learning.

Year 7 - Community Inquiry: This term, our Year 7 learners are exploring what makes the North Shore a thriving and connected community through their North Shore Community Project. As part of their inquiry, they are investigating the essential services, organisations, and people who work together to support the wellbeing, safety, and sustainability of our local area. Through research, guest speakers, and visits, learners are developing a deeper understanding of how communities function and how individuals can make a positive difference. The unit encourages learners to become informed, responsible citizens who recognise that even small actions can strengthen and improve the communities we all belong to.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school community. Here’s to a wonderful, successful Term 3!
