Principal's Message - Mr. Stoney

Dear Mary M. Knight Families and Community Members,

This week marks several significant milestones in our academic calendar, and I want to ensure everyone is well-informed about these important events.

First and foremost, Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Wednesday through Friday (October 30 - November 1). Please note that we will have 12:25 PM early dismissals on all three days to accommodate these important meetings. For our elementary families, conferences are scheduled through your child's teacher, while secondary conferences are drop-in style. These conferences are invaluable opportunities to discuss your child's progress, set goals, and strengthen our school-home partnership. We particularly encourage evening conference attendance on Wednesday for families unable to attend during regular school hours.

Tuesday, October 29th, marks the end of our first quarter. I strongly encourage all families to check Skyward's Parent Access for current grades and missing assignments before conferences. This preparation will help make your conference time more productive and focused.

We also have several important events this week. On Monday, we celebrate our volleyball seniors during Senior Night as we face Oakville at 5:30 PM. The School Board meeting follows at 6:00 PM. We end the week with an exciting football game against Northwest Christian on Friday at 7:00 PM.

I'm pleased to recognize our GRIT award recipients for the week of October 21st. Congratulations to our elementary winners: Kaison Gonzales, Paislee Van Boven, Jayce Lingnau, and Avery Lohman; and our secondary recipients: Dillon Smith, Alex Tindall, and Brielle Mirka. These students exemplify the Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity we value at MMK.

Finally, don't forget to download our new Mary M. Knight District App to stay connected with all school events and information. It's a valuable tool for keeping up with our busy calendar and important announcements.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. I look forward to seeing you at conferences this week.

Go OWLS!

End of First Quarter - October 29, 2024

The end of quarter 1 will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2024. It is important that you are in contact with your child's teacher on their academic progress up to this point. Questions on grades, missing assignments, etc. should occur prior to the end of the mid-term grades. Here are some tips on keeping up on your child's grades.

  • Check your child's grades and assignments on Parent Access through Skyward.
  • Email or call you child's teacher's with questions regarding their academic progress.
  • Talk with your child on their progress in each of their classes.

Weekly GRIT students

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

Positive Referrals - These are referrals that any staff member can fill out on a student who they feel are consistently demonstrating actions or behaviors related to our OWLS behavior expectations of Ownership, Willingness, Leadership, and Success. When a student received a positive referral, they are give a certificate, contacted home on what they did to earn it, and are posted in the school.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
