Computer Science Education Week—December 9-13
Computer Science Education Week (CS Ed Week December 9th-13th) is a vital opportunity to celebrate the importance of computer science in shaping the future and empowering students with essential skills for the digital age. At Piedmont and Millennium high schools, every student engages in computer science by taking at least one semester of CS, ensuring a foundation in this critical field.
This year, our focus is on exploring artificial intelligence (AI) in many classes, with both teachers and students participating in meaningful discussions and hands-on activities that highlight AI’s impact on various subjects and everyday life. By celebrating CS Ed Week, we are fostering innovation, creativity, and an understanding of how technology drives change. We also received an award for female diversity in AP CS from the College Board in 2023.
More information on CS Ed Week 2024 and for Hour of Code activities for all ages and interests, go to: https://www.csedweek.org
Our next District Technology Advisory Committee (DTAC) meeting, will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, 24 at 3:45pm in the Havens library or online. AI at PUSD will be the topic of discussion. Join Us. Register for more information and Google Meet link. https://forms.gle/ocoyPYfquyM3Mef3A

Attendance Policy Review
Regular attendance and classroom participation are essential to the educational process at MHS. Missing class presentations, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories can be detrimental to student achievement, grades, credit accumulation and the progress of the class itself.
Reporting and Excusing an Absence
When a student is absent, it is required that the parent/guardian either phone the Attendance Office recorder (510-594-2889) or send a note explaining the reason for the absence. If an absence is cleared by phone, it is not necessary to follow up with a note. Only the signatures of the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the student emergency card are permitted on notes. Please provide the following information: first and last name of the student, name of parent, date of absence, the specific classes missed, and the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians must excuse their student’s absence within three days of the time they return. If an absence is not cleared within that time, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are not permitted to excuse themselves on the recorder or by note. Students who miss three or more days of school in succession must present a doctor’s note, if the absences are due to illness.

If we reach 75% participation from Piedmont Unified School District families, the entire town will celebrate with a community-wide pajama day!
Watch the Giving Meter in the center of town to track our progress. Imagine our entire community in PJs, celebrating our united support for our schools. PEF encourages everyone to contribute, no matter the amount. Let’s come together to make a positive impact and show our commitment to education.
