Helping Our Island Community After the Kona Low Flooding

In the wake of the devastating Kona Low flooding—with damages now estimated to exceed $1 billion—Waikiki School is coming together to support the Hawaii Food Bank and help nourish our island community. We invite our school families to join us in a targeted food drive to provide essential relief to those in our community facing hardship.

Drive Details

  • Dates: Wednesday, April 1, through Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

  • Where: Each classroom will be a drop-off box.

Top 5 Most Needed Items

Based on the Hawaii Food Bank’s most urgent requirements, please prioritize the following:

  1. Monetary Donations: The most flexible way to help; give online at hawaiifoodbank.org/donate.

  2. Canned Proteins: Such as tuna, chicken, and other lean meats.

  3. Canned Meals: Including soup, stew, chili, and pasta.

  4. Canned Fruits & Vegetables.

  5. Bags of Rice: Specifically in 5 to 10 pound bags.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kusuda

Every can and every dollar makes a difference as we work to rebuild and support our neighbors during this difficult time. As part of a nationwide network of food banks called Feeding America, Hawai‘i Foodbank can purchase food at a lower cost – about one-fifth retail price – so monetary donations help stretch your impact even further. Every $10 donated helps provide food for more than 20 meals. If you make a monetary donation, select "Disaster Preparedness and Response." In the Add Comment section, you can add "Waikiki School Food and Fund Drive."
