Happy October, Huckleberry Heroes!

I am absolutely loving this fall weather we have been having so far! September feels like it flew by and I can't believe we are already one month into the school year. Over the past few weeks, I have loved visiting classrooms and introducing myself to our Huckleberry Heroes so they can learn more about how I can support them here at HHS! As we continue to settle into the new school year, it is important we are patient and understand that it might take some children more time to adjust to the routines and procedures here at school.

Take a look at the articles, podcasts, and activities in this month's newsletter!

How to Calm Anxiety in Kids: Strategies for Parents and Families

When I talk to parents in my practice and at workshops, I'm very clear that what a parent does matters. This sounds obvious, but many books and articles about anxious kids tend to gently wade into (or avoid entirely) the reality that parents might have something to do with why children are anxious and worried.

How Does Anxiety Affect Kids in School? - Child Mind Institute

Sometimes school anxiety is easy to identify - like when a child is feeling nervous before a test at school. Other times anxiety in the classroom can look like something else entirely - an upset stomach, disruptive or angry behavior, ADHD, or even a learning disorder.

What to Do (and Not Do) When Children Are Anxious - Child Mind Institute

When children are chronically anxious, even the most well-meaning parents can fall into a negative cycle and, not wanting a child to suffer, actually exacerbate the youngster's anxiety. It happens when parents, anticipating a child's fears, try to protect her from them. Here are pointers for helping children escape the cycle of anxiety.
