Maugham Moments
February 2026 Newsletter
A Word from Mrs. Loor
Dear Maugham Families,
BRRR!! Winter has decided to act like winter with all this snow and bitter cold. Although we are stuck inside, we are trying to be creative in ways we can get more movement throughout the day. Students have been eating in the classrooms for lunch so that we are able to use the gym for indoor recess. Students are playing basketball, jumping rope and hula hooping.
We are grateful to the HSA for the Freedom Stories assemblies as well as the American Revolution assembly for our 4th grade students. We also had visits from the Tenafly Nature Center and Veolia water company with presentations tied to our science and social studies curriculum.
Thank you so much for making our toiletries drive such a success. Your generosity is much appreciated. The Student Council packed over 150 kits to donate to the Heart 'n Hands Mission. To learn more about the Heart 'n Hands Mission, click here.
I experienced my first Maugham School Variety Show and it was AMAZING! What a talented group of students we have! I cannot believe the sheer number of children who performed. A huge thank you to Lexi Cullen-Baker for all her hard work in organizing and putting on this wonderful event together.
This month, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday, February 9th. We are looking forward to Valentine's Day parties, a visit from TMS for our 5th graders, an author visit from Wendy Mass and a special Lunar New Year assembly.
Be safe, be warm and be kind!
With Sincerest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Valentine's Day Guidelines
Many classes will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at school on Friday, February 13th with a focus on friendship, kindness, and inclusion.
If your child chooses to bring in valentines, please be sure they have one for each child in the class so that everyone feels included. To help keep all of our students safe and healthy, we kindly ask that no food or candy items be sent in with valentines. Instead, non-food items such as stickers, pencils, or small notes are wonderful alternatives and are greatly appreciated.
These guidelines help ensure that all children can participate fully and that our celebration remains simple, joyful, and welcoming for everyone.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us create a positive and caring Valentine’s Day experience for our students!
Pick Up Car Line Reminders
- 1st and 2nd grade students must be independent release in order to use the pick up line at the end of the day. All parents and/or caregivers must park and get out of the car in order to retrieve their children if they are direct release. You cannot wave them over to the car.
- Kindergarten students are all direct release who need to be picked up by an adult, not an older sibling. Please make sure all caregivers know this.
- Please pull up all the way in front of the school before having your child get into the car. We are trying to keep the children out of the driveway of the parking lot.
- With all of the snow, it is best to drop off and pick up your children between the bus parking sign and the driveway where the sidewalk is cleared.
Special Areas Showcase - Music
Hello Maugham Families!
Students have been bringing such joy to the school community with their wonderful singing, dancing, and rhythming! In recent months, they have been learning how to celebrate the seasonal changes, and what magical moments surround us during the fall and winter times. Learning about the arts/music helps students become sensitive to the beautiful things around them, and so thank you for keeping the music alive in your homes!
Below are activities students engage in on a weekly basis. In music class, not only do they learn how to sing, play, and appreciate music, but they also develop other necessary skills like pattern recognition, sequencing, physical coordination, and collaboration! It is a true pleasure and an inspiration to see students challenging themselves and tackling different activities with excitement.
Also, here are some of the websites I use in music class to teach students about composition, rhythms, and pitches. Please feel free to take a look at home with your children!
Again, thank you for all your support in the music program! Please have a wonderful month of February!
Mr. Do
February GOAT!
A big congratulations to Ms. Yoon’s class — they are the GOAT!
They showed up every Friday shining bright and spreading Maugham pride in their spirit wear, and they are this month’s winners of the coveted GOAT Trophy!
We are so proud of them! Remember, every Friday is Spirit Day, so wear your Maugham gear and show your school pride all year long!
Message from Nurse Shyong
Cold and flu season is here and in order to keep our school as germ-free as possible we want to make sure that students who are sick are able to fully recover without spreading any germs. Please take notice of the school protocols regarding fevers:
- A student must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication to attend school.
- If your child is sent home with a fever from school then they must remain home the following day as well. This helps them get the rest they need and will mitigate the spread of germs.
Please do not hesitate to contact Nurse Shyong with any questions or concerns. Her email is eshyong@tenafly.k12.nj.us.
