🚸 Thank You for Keeping Our Falcons Safe 🚸 Thank You for Keeping Our Falcons Safe

Thank you to the many families who carefully follow our pick up and drop off procedures each day. You are modeling our Farnham 3 Personal Standards in action, and our students see you Make Good Decisions and Show Respect every morning and afternoon.

However, we continue to see unsafe driving and parking around our school, and it must stop. No amount of hurry is worth putting a child at risk. Every driver shares the responsibility of keeping our students, families, and neighbors safe, and we expect every family to follow these rules every day:

  • Yield to pedestrians of all ages in the parking lot and in all crosswalks. This is the law.
  • Do not park in red zones at any time, even for a moment. This is the law.
  • Do not park in front of or block resident driveways. Our neighbors deserve the same respect we ask of our students.
  • Use designated crosswalks when crossing the street, and keep crosswalks clear for pedestrians.
  • There is no drop off in the parking lot. Please use the designated drop off area only.

If you observe ongoing unsafe driving in our neighborhood, you can submit a traffic enforcement request to the San Jose Police Department here:

https://www.sjpd.org/about-us/organization/bureau-of-field-operations/traffic-enforcement-unit/request-traffic-enforcement

Safety is not optional, and it takes every one of us. Thank you for doing your part to keep Farnham and our surrounding neighborhood safe. Together, we can make every arrival and dismissal a safe one!

Dear Farnham Families,

Today wraps up our Goal Setting Conferences, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to every family who took the time to sit down with our teachers. These conversations are one of the most important ways we build a strong home and school connection. When families and teachers work together to set goals, our Falcons see that the adults in their lives are on the same team, cheering them on every step of the way. Thank you for your partnership and for your commitment to your child's growth this year.

As our students work toward their new goals, we encourage you to talk with them at home about our Farnham 3 Personal Standards:

  • Solve Problems
  • Make Good Decisions
  • Show Respect

These standards guide how our Falcons learn, play, and treat one another every day. Reaching a goal often means solving a tricky problem, making a good decision when it counts, and showing respect to ourselves and others along the way. We would love for you to ask your child how they are practicing the Farnham 3 in their own goals!

A reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 9, and Monday, October 12. We hope you enjoy the long weekend together, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday.

Save the date: our Pumpkin Walk is just two weeks away! This is one of our favorite Farnham traditions, and we can't wait to celebrate together. More details are coming soon.

Enjoy the long weekend, Falcons!

Be well,

Amy O'Hehir

Farnham Principal

CEF Volunteer Support Fund

Open the Door to More Volunteers

Volunteers make our schools stronger. They support classrooms, field trips, student activities, and school programs - and students benefit when parents and community members can be involved.

The new volunteer clearance process includes a $77 fingerprinting cost, which can be a barrier for some families.

Help Remove the Barrier

Cambrian Educational Foundation (CEF) has launched the Volunteer Support Fund with an initial $3,000 investment to help provide financial assistance for required fingerprinting.

Your donation can help multiply that impact by helping more parents and community members become cleared volunteers.

To direct your donation to this fund, visit www.cambrianef.org/giving.

Under "Please direct my support to:" select "Volunteer Support Fund" from the dropdown menu.

School Absences:

If your child will be absent or tardy, please call the automated 24 hour attendance line before the school day begins. Absences not cleared will be recorded as a truancy. Farnham's 24 hour automated attendance line is 408-377-3321 EXT 4102.

Any questions, please contact the Health/Attendance Clerk, Renee Gundersen 408-377-3321 EXT 4104. Remember to always include her in any email( gundersenr@cambriansd.com) regarding absences or tardies.

Avoid Tardies

Being on time to school is a great way to start the day (students do not like walking into class late). Please avoid tardies at all costs. Gates open at 8:05 am, and close (and lock) at 8:15 am when the instructional day begins. After 8:15 am, everyone must check in through the school office, and students will walk themselves to class.

Truancy:

A pupil is considered truant if they are absent without a valid excuse for:

  • Three full days in one school year.

  • Any combination of absences or tardiness exceeding 30 minutes on three occasions in one school year.

Upon classification as a truant, the school will notify the parent or guardian, informing them of the pupil's truancy status and their obligation to ensure the pupil's attendance.

Habitual Truancy:

If a pupil is reported as a truant three or more times in one school year, the pupil is considered a habitual truant. A School Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting will be scheduled with the parent/guardian to work on a success and remediation plan.

Chronic Absenteeism:

A pupil is deemed chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of school days in a year, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

Students who are habitual truants or chronically absent may be referred to a School Attendance Review Board (SARB). These bodies work with the student and family to address attendance issues and may recommend community services or other interventions.
