Principal's Message - February 2026
Dear Avon North Families,
Second semester is off to a great start as we continue to make NORTH a place where ALL BELONG, LEARN, and GROW!
We have a couple of important dates on the horizon.
Students who scored below or approaching proficiency categories will retake Checkpoint 2 on February 10 and February 11.
Save the Date: The Winter Dance is scheduled for February 27th from 6pm - 8:30pm. The Winter Dance is our end of quarter three celebration, and we'll have more information to you and our students very soon!
Finally, the winter season can tend to feel a little long, so we continue to encourage students to focus on our three pillars: Be Accountable, Be Respectful, and Be Engaged. These pillars offer excellent daily reminders for our students to continue to be accountable to their teachers by being on time to class, to be respectful of one another's personal space, and to be engaged in their learning by being an active listener when our teachers are providing instruction.
If I can be of any help to you or your student in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Go Orioles,
Mike McKinney
Principal, AMSN

Mid-Year McKinney-Vento Housing Survey
As we move into the second half of the school year, we are asking all families to complete our Mid-Year McKinney-Vento Housing Survey. This brief survey helps us ensure that students who may be experiencing housing instability receive the support, resources, and protections they are entitled to under the McKinney-Vento Act. Your participation is important—even if your housing situation has not changed—so we can maintain accurate records and continue providing appropriate services. Thank you for helping us support every student’s well-being and success. Families with multiple children only need to complete the survey one time.
To access this form, please log in to your PowerParent Account using the link found here. Once logged in, navigate to the Forms tab on the left-hand side at the bottom of the page. From there, click on the General tab and complete the form titled General Mid-Year McKinney-Vento Housing Questionnaire.
If you have forgotten your username or password, click the “Forgot Username or Password?” link to recover your information. Please note that recovery emails may take a few hours to arrive. If you continue to experience issues, please contact your student’s school for further assistance.

Athletics
All student athletes will need to have a FinalForms Account before participating in any type of conditioning or tryouts at Avon Middle School North. ACSC uses a completely paperless clearance process. The process includes a paperless IHSAA Pre-Participation Physical, dated after April 1, 2025. A parent/guardian will be required to create an account and manage the necessary documents for all of their student/athletes using the FinalForms l. This process will provide a higher level of security and efficiency than the previous process. Please see Avon North athletic webpage for complete information. https://amsnorth.avon-schools.org/athletics
Order your yearbook at ybpay.lifetouch.com - use the code 14453026. The cost is $30.00.

Counselor's Corner
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The middle school years can be an exciting time of growth—but they can also bring new pressures and worries for students. Academic expectations increase, friendships shift, bodies change, and many teens begin to think more about who they are and where they fit in. It’s no surprise that anxiety is common during this stage of development. The good news is that parents play a powerful role in helping teens manage anxiety and build healthy coping skills.
• Encourage healthy routines. Regular sleep, nutritious meals, physical activity, and limited screen time all help reduce anxiety. • Teach coping strategies. Deep breathing, taking breaks, journaling, or doing something creative can help teens calm their minds and bodies.
• Model calm behavior. Teens learn a lot by watching adults. Managing your own stress in healthy ways sends a powerful message.
• Know when to seek extra support. If anxiety is interfering with school, friendships, or daily life, reaching out to a school counselor or mental health professional can make a big difference.
Working Together School staff and families are partners in supporting students’ well-being. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have concerns or questions about your child’s emotional health. Early support helps students build resilience and confidence that will serve them well beyond middle school. Thank you for all you do to support your child during these important years. With understanding, patience, and teamwork, we can help our students learn to manage anxiety and thrive.

The thought of paying for college can feel overwhelming. Did you know that eligible students who meet certain requirements can get a two or four-year scholarship that pays up to 100% tuition at eligible Indiana colleges and Universities?
- Students who are at least 13 years old should create a ScholarTrack account, regardless of their 21st Century Scholars enrollment status.
- When the ScholarTrack account is created, students must sign the Scholar Pledge to confirm enrollment in the program. This should be completed by the end of 9th grade.
- Once the Scholar Pledge is signed, Scholars must complete the Scholar Success Program. All students can complete the program regardless of 21st Century Scholars enrollment status.
Office Procedures
Building Access
In Avon Schools, safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. A building access intercom system was installed at AMSNorth. Visitors will press the doorbell and be asked to identify yourself and provide a reason for your visit. Thank you for your patience in adapting to this updated, more secure system.
Attendance:
If a student is absent from school, a parent or guardian must call the school at 317-544-5500 by 10:00 am to report the absence or send an email to MNattendance@avon-schools.org
Early Dismissal:
When students have to leave school early for special appointments, a note from a parent or guardian must be brought from home to secure an “Early Dismissal” slip from the office. The note must be brought to the front office before school starts.
Tardy to School:
If a student arrives after the tardy bell, he/she must sign in at the office before going to class. Students who are late due to school bus problems are excused. Excessive tardiness to school may result in an assignment of lunch detention, before/after-school detention or Saturday School.
