Schools across Baldwin UFSD took pride in celebrating Black History Month. Some examples: Brookside, Lenox and Steele Elementary School students researched and presented on inspiring African Americans in various ways, from FlipGrids to dioramas. Meadow students performed the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” under the direction of music teacher, Ms. Holly Rodas (pictured). The Student Council at Plaza Elementary School created a calendar out of pictures honoring Black History Month drawn by students and will send all proceeds to the African American Museum of Nassau County. Baldwin Middle School led a building-wide celebration each morning with a video announcement that recognized the achievements and impacts of individual African Americans. At Baldwin High School, Black History Month was embedded into the curriculum. For instance, for English, Mr. Al Nardone's class read and analyzed speeches and memoirs about famous African Americans.

8th Graders in Pre-Academy Program Teach Meadow Kindergartners Lessons in Literacy
The "Future Teachers of Baldwin" Pre-Academy made its debut this year, introducing Baldwin Middle School students to the teaching profession. Most recently, the 8th graders in the program taught Meadow Elementary School students, which encompassed instruction and lesson planning. The Pre-Academy students read a book to small groups of kindergartners and then lead an activity of creating a graphic to highlight the main characters, challenges, and morals. The kindergarteners were not only fully engaged but reveled in the experience. The Pre-Academy students will return to Meadow this month for another lesson. Many students in this Pre-Academy will enroll in the Education Academy at Baldwin High School.
