Malvern's Mission Statement
At Malvern, we are kind, curious and brave. We learn, grow and lead together.
🍎 Principal News 🍎
Malvern Families,
We had a fantastic week at Malvern, capped off by our first Red Hawk Rally of the year! The smiles on our students’ faces were priceless, and the excitement in the air was truly electric.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported our schoolwide fundraiser. We surpassed last year’s total, and it would not have been possible without your generosity and commitment to our Red Hawks!
At Malvern, we believe student success happens when we all work together. To ensure teachers can teach and learning can thrive, we need your support in helping students consistently uphold our S.O.A.R. expectations across all areas of the school.
Every day, our Red Hawks are reminded to:
S – Self-Control: Make good choices with their words, actions, and bodies.
O – On-Task: Listen, follow directions, and stay focused.
A – Achievement: Always try their best and come prepared to learn.
R – Respect: Show kindness to themselves, others, and our school.
By reviewing these expectations with your child and encouraging them to strive for these behaviors daily, we can maintain a safe, respectful, and focused environment where every Red Hawk can soar.
From campus news to important updates, the Malvern Messenger has you covered!
Proud to be a Red Hawk,
Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal

O – Concentrados: Escuchar, seguir instrucciones y mantenerse concentrados.

Parent Consent for Student Club Participation
At McKinney ISD, one of our top priorities is making sure every student feels connected and has opportunities to get involved. We know that when students find activities, clubs, and organizations they enjoy, they build stronger relationships, feel a greater sense of belonging, and are more engaged in school. In accordance with Senate Bill 12, McKinney ISD requires parent approval for students to participate in any student club or organization. All student clubs and organizations must comply with district guidelines and state law.
Please use this Parent Consent Form to provide or deny permission for your child to participate in student clubs at our school.
By working together, we can make sure every student finds a place to belong and thrive.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
For the safety of all students, we kindly ask parents not to stop and talk with their children during recess while they are on the playground. This helps us maintain a secure and supervised environment, ensures smooth routines, and avoids distractions during playtime. Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep all students safe.
REMINDER - MISD Cell Phone Policy
The 89th Texas Legislature passed House Bill 1481, prohibiting student use of personal communication devices during the school day. This law and corresponding district policy are intended to reduce distractions, protect instructional time, and promote meaningful student engagement.
Personal Communication Devices include but are not limited to:
Smartphones
Laptops and tablets
Smartwatches
Earbuds and earphones
Smart eyeglasses
Portable gaming devices
Key Points:
All personal communication devices must remain out of sight during the school day.
Students may continue to keep personal communication devices in backpacks in case of an emergency. McKinney ISD believes it is important for students to have access to their phones in a crisis situation.
Students will continue to use district-issued devices, such as iPads and MacBooks, provided for instructional purposes.
McKinney ISD’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy has been updated in the 2025–2026 Student Handbook to reflect BYOD is not allowed according to HB 1481.
Disciplinary Consequences:
Violations of prohibited guidelines are subject to disciplinary consequences as outlined below:
Disciplinary Consequences:
1st Offense
Device turned into campus administration
Warning from administration
Parent/guardian notified
Device returned to student at the end of the school day
2nd Offense
Device turned into campus administration
Lunch or After-School Detention
Parent/guardian notified
Device returned to parent/guardian only
3rd Offense
Device turned into campus administration
1 Day In-School Suspension
Device returned to parent/guardian only
Mandatory parent/student conference
Students are prohibited from bringing personal devices to campus for the remainder of the semester. Further violations will be considered insubordination of school policy.
Limited Exceptions: A student may be permitted to possess or use a personal communication device only with written approval from campus administration and documentation supporting one or more of the following exceptions:
The device is required to the extent necessary to implement the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan.
The device is medically necessary, and its use is authorized by a licensed physician in the State of Texas and approved by designated 504 or ARD committee.
The device is needed to comply with district or campus safety protocols, or as otherwise required by law.
Dual credit students attending dual credit classes on MISD campuses can use phone to authenticate into Collin College system during the first 5 minutes of class.

Exciting October Events at Malvern Elementary
Fall is in the air at Malvern Elementary, and our Red Hawks have some exciting opportunities to look forward to this October!
First up is our October Reading Challenge. Each student will be bringing home a challenge page in their red folder, full of fun activities designed to spark a love of reading. We encourage families to work together to complete as many of the challenges as possible throughout the month. Completed pages should be returned to the library by Friday, November 3rd. Students who participate will have the chance to win some exciting prizes!
One special part of the challenge is our Storybook Pumpkin Patch. Students are invited to decorate a pumpkin based on a favorite book or book character. These creative pumpkins will be displayed in the library, transforming it into a colorful and imaginative patch for everyone to enjoy. Learn more!
We can’t wait to see our Red Hawks dive into reading and share their creativity this October!
October Counseling Focus
This month in counseling, we are building on September’s lessons and introducing new skills to help students grow as leaders and learners.
- Character Trait: Responsibility
- Students are learning what it means to be responsible—taking ownership of their choices, completing tasks, and being dependable at school and at home.
Conflict Resolution & Problem Solving
We are practicing peaceful ways to solve problems with peers, including listening, using kind words, and working together to find solutions.
Review of Self-Regulation & Coping Skills
We will continue practicing strategies such as deep breathing, positive self-talk, and taking a break to manage big emotions.
Review of Respect
Students will revisit the importance of showing respect to themselves, others, and their school environment.
đź’ˇ At home tip: Ask your child how they can show responsibility this week. Encourage them to share how they solved a problem respectfully or used a coping skill to calm down.

Recent changes in Texas law now require McKinney ISD to obtain additional parent/guardian consent before providing medical care through the school nurse or trained staff. The link below takes you to a consent form that is only available in English and Spanish. Parents can also access the consent form by logging into the SSO portal and choosing the MISD Parental Consent Form.
The language of the consent is below:
“ I agree and understand that the school nurse or other assigned staff may provide routine, health-related care services throughout the course of the school year. Signed medication forms(25/26), Individualized health plans(IHP)(25/26), or medical accommodations through the Individualized Education Plans(IEP), ARD or 504 will remain in force. I also agree that this includes that the district will seek appropriate emergency care for a student with or without consent, should it be deemed necessary.” YES or NO are the two choice options.
Once this form is filled out, a unique link is sent to guardian 1's email address that has the medical care verbiage as stated above. This form may only be completed by guardian #1. You must manually type your email into the consent box when prompted, not allow it to autofill. The email address must match the email address provided to MISD upon registration. Google Chrome is the preferred browser for compatibility.
2025-2026 Learning Plans
Dear Parents, you may access the 2025-2026 learning plans for your child's class on our MISD Teaching and Learning website.
Visitors and Volunteers
MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.
A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy of your ID will not be accepted.
MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application.
MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus.
Hawk Squad Call to Action
Hawk Squad is a fun, high-energy volunteer program where we welcome students each morning with high fives, compliments, positivity, and enthusiasm as they head into class! Getting started is simple—just complete the standard MISD volunteer background check and fill out the form linked here. (Please note: by completing this form you are giving your personal information to a Malvern parent.)
In addition to morning greetings, we also help out at various school events throughout the year. Our goal is to grow Hawk Squad into a strong and lasting tradition—and we’d love for you to be a part of it!
Active members will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive, custom Hawk Squad t-shirt to wear and keep.
We welcome everyone—dads, moms, grandparents, and more! If you're ready to have fun and make a difference, sign up and join the squad. We can’t wait to meet you!
