Message from Nicole Pease, Principal
Good afternoon DCS Families, it has been a lovely long week! Valentine's DAy is such fun in the elementary school setting. The love and kindness students show to each other and to staff is precious.
Students and staff have been working hard on winter benchmark testing and we should be done by the end of next week. You should be proud of how diligent your student(s) have been in doing their best! In early March grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the NHSAS Writing Assessment.
Today beings the final Winter Fun Day! We are looking forward to the Winter Festival tomorrow, and I hope to see you all there! Next week, the DCS PTO has supported the visit of Animal Adventures on Friday.
Have a great weekend, Nicole
Winter Benchmark Assessments
Students and staff have been working through the mid year benchmarking. This information shows how students are progressing as well as areas we may need to focus upon in order to maximize their growth. I have been so impressed with the effort our students are putting into this work and it shows! This fall, 53% of students in grades 1-5 scored above the goal in math, this winter 67% scored above the goal. This fall, 63% of students in grades 1-5 scored above the goal in reading, this winter 79% scored above the goal! Amazing work!
This week in Wellness
This week in wellness...
Students learned about ways to take care of their teeth from brushing and flossing to healthy food choices that build strong teeth and bones. Students also discussed how their teeth help them speak specific words and sounds and how strange it feels when they lose a tooth. Students were surprised to learn the types of teeth, not just 'baby and adult teeth'. All agreed it's important to take care of their teeth. Yay!
We learned to jump rope and students tried various levels of tricks. Ask your child to show you. They have really done quite well and they're so fun to work with and watch them improve. In addition to using a jump rope, students jumped using a 'skip-it, jump/thunder stick, and hula hoop jumping'. They really enjoyed the long rope too. All classes celebrated Valentine's Day...fitness and stretching stations and heart relay.
Thank you for encouraging healthy choices!
